Full Version: My thoughts about Rec Center

I dropped by the Rec Center earlier today and received the "nickel" tour from ATTALLABLAZE (thanks, buddy! )

First, the good:

1) The place is massive. 4 floors of stuff to do. In terms of construction and space, this building has been very well-planned.

2) There is a ton of stuff for the students to do. A climbing wall, a swimming pool, a massive workout room, multiple multi-purpose rooms, a huge running track, a 4-court basketball court, locker rooms, racquetball courts, a rollerblade hockey arena, game rooms for pool and ping pong, and so much more. This place will be a HUGE hit with the students.

The bad:

1) The pool is only 4 feet deep at its deepest point. Whose idea was that? 05-nono You can't even dive or REALLY get underwater with that small depth.

2) When ATTALLA says there is no green and gold anywhere, he's not kidding. I don't think you guys (especially LJ) realize how much there is a lack of a UAB feel to the place. I guess the best way to describe it is this: You could take 10 pictures, anywhere in the building, and show them to a student at another college. He/she would have NO IDEA what college rec center the pictures were taken from. There is NO UAB insignia anywhere. The ONLY thing that came close to being halfway decent was the 4-court basketball court. The wall padding is green, the sound-breakers in the ceiling are green, and the scoreboards are green.

There is not one single Blaze logo anywhere. Any. Where.

----

Overall, I'm pleased with the layout and design of the building, but the lack of UAB insigna/colors SHOULD and WILL upset many of the students. I hope the University receives enough complaints in this area that they are FORCED to add some UAB stuff.

I also hope when potential UAB students come for UAB Day, they won't notice the fact that there's no UAB stuff inside.
I swear to God I hate our BOT. I hate being a part of this bull sh*t they call a university system. I hate it with my entire being. I have said it before and I'll say it again: I wish no one harm in the process, but I wish the entire campus in that slum to the west would burn to the ground. I would be the first to go over and piss on the ashes.
I hate them too and it irks me to no end how much they try to hold us back. The only thing they show when they do that is fear. They are scared that UAB is going to take their spot in academics. They are scared that UAB will take some of their spotlight in athletics.

FEAR.
That's exactly right. If we didn't pose a threat to the Criminal Turds, they would care if we spent $50 to have a UAB logo painted in the main entrance.
I wonder if Watson could do something about this with Dr. Garrison.
So why don't we raise the cash to pay for the dragon logo signs? If it is donated to the gym by people who love UAB athletics, the BOT can't gripe about state money going for it.

Wonder how many various athletic logos I could count in half a day at UAT?

Check out UAT's Rec Center, then check out UAB's. What a joke. UAT's is like a flood of red and white.
TOP 3 THINGS I HATE:

1 BOT and or anything relating to uat
2. TULANE
3. SOUTHERN MISS

I like that idea.

FEAR.
If they fear us so much they must be frozen in fear at the mere mention of Tulane or Southern Miss.
