UPDATE: Mom died this morning at 5:15. I was by her bedside.

The funeral will be Monday. I'll post details once I have made arrangements.
Here's the obit:

Quote:Chappell, Ruth Kay Phillips, 70, of Trussville, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Ralph Melvin Chappell, her daughter, Robin Renee Chappell, a brother, Ned Wallace Phillips, a triplet sister, Rita Faye Phillips, and her parents, Thurman Braxton Phillips and Jesse Pauline Phillips.

She was a devoted mother and housewife, and she worked tirelessly not only for her own children, but for dozens of foster children for whom she and her husband cared in their later years. She was a longtime member of Trussville Southside Baptist Church, and a 1957 graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School.

She was born Friday, May 13, 1938, in a birth that made the front page of The Birmingham News as Alabama's first known set of triplets to survive birth. She had a triplet sister who died at age 3, and she is survived by her triplet brother. Her birth, while on a superstitious day, also fell on her father's birthday, which added to the news element of her and her siblings' arrival.

She is survived by her son, Steven E. Chappell (Crista) of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a beloved foster daughter, Andrea Eggleston of Conyers, Ga.; two brothers, Raymond David Phillips (Javell) of Trussville and Donald Roger Phillips of Gardendale; and a grandson, Duncan Neal Chappell, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and three nieces and two nephews.

No visitation services will be held. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Sulpher Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Trussville, Ala., Ridout's Trussville Chapel presiding.

GN:
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I'll never forget your kind words for me last year. I'm here for you and/or your family if you need anything.
My mother has been gone since August 22, 1973--35 years ago, but reading of your mother's death brings back that feeling like it was yesterday. Know that all your friends carry you close to us in our thoughts and prayers. Don't expect the feeling of loss of such a basic foundation rock of your life to pass any time soon. Just be patient with yourself and know that you will get through it in time. Keep us informed of any way we can help or just to know we care.
I'm sorry, Steve.
So sorry for your loss Steve. I am very happy that you were able to be at her side before she passed away.
Steve, my family's prayers are with you. Call me if you need anything my friend.
*hugs* I am very sorry for your loss. I am sure she is in a far better place now, and no longer suffering. My heart is with you. Please, do not hesitate to call should you need anything!
We're saddened by your loss. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Sorry to hear. Glad you were able to make it down to see her one last time.
I'm sorry for your loss, GN.

Take comfort in her lasting successes here on earth, including raising a pretty good son with your father.
You're in my thoughts, GN. Sorry for your loss.
