Huskies tough at home
Posted by BKoch at 10/20/2008 11:03 AM EDT on Cincinnati.com

When the UC football team travels to UConn on Saturday, the Bearcats will be facing a team that has won 10 straight games at home. The last team to beat the Huskies at Rentschler Field was UC, which posted a 26-23 win on Nov. 25, 2006, in Mark Dantonio's last game as UC's head coach. UConn is 28-8 all-time in five-plus years at Rentschler.

Both teams will be playing with backup quarterbacks. For UConn, it's Notre Dame transfer Zach Frazer playing in place of Tyler Lorenzen, who broke his foot against Louisville on Sept. 26. For UC, Tony Pike, playing with a broken left forearm, is expected to return after missing the last two games. Pike, of course, replaced Dustin Grutza, who broke his leg and injured his ankle on Sept. 6 vs. Oklahoma.

UConn running back Donald Brown leads the country in rushing with 167.7 yards per game. He has gained 100 yards by halftime in six of his last seven games.

yea....now some of you can see why this game scares me.....
We will win this game. Trust me on this one.

I thought the same thing about UL and Pitt last year...I sure hope you're right though.
We will win by 17 at the least. One dimensional offenses are not successful against the D.

Don't jinx us like that. I personally blame you Sub if we lose.
Why doesnt Vegas share in your optimism?
UConn might not have Frazer available:

Quote:UConn quarterback Zach Frazer was still being evaluated Sunday, and there was no clear indication on his practice status for the week or for Saturday's game against Cincinnati at Rentschler Field.

The Bearcats are 5-1, 1-0 in the Big East. The Huskies are 5-2, 1-1.

Frazer, a sophomore who has made two starts since replacing Tyler Lorenzen (broken foot) in the Louisville game, was called "a little fuzzy" after UConn's 12-10 loss at Rutgers Saturday.

Coach Randy Edsall used the word fuzzy to describe Frazer again Sunday but stopped short of calling it a concussion. Frazer sustained a concussion in preseason practice and missed time.

UConn QB Zach Frazer, Oct. 14, 2008 Video "We should have a more definitive answer on Tuesday," Edsall said. "But he's better today than he was yesterday."

Frazer did not come to the interview room after the game. Edsall said he thought the hit came on the Huskies' second-to-last or last drive, or it was a combination of hits on both drives that had Frazer a little woozy.

Behind Frazer on the depth chart is redshirt freshman Cody Endres, who has thrown five passes this season

Status Remains Unclear for frazer
I really don't think it would be a good idea for UCONN to send their QB out there if he is "fuzzy." I can see Barwin, Nelms and company absolutely teeing off on him.

Now Donald Brown is a good running back, but UC is pretty tough at stopping the run. If UCONN is forced to throw, I see us winning the game by a couple of scores.
UConn is a good team. They are not flashy, they are not overly talented, they are just solid in every phase of the game. The problem with playing that way is that they don't have any margin for error. UConn won as many games as they did last year because they played solid, mistake free football in the passing game, ran the ball very hard and they played lights out defense and special teams, and most importantly they were +14 in turnovers. This year they are still playing good defense, 28th in total D, 23rd in scoring D. But they are horrendous in special teams, phil steele has them pegged as 95th special teams unit in the nation. But the kicker is that this year they are -2 in the turnover margin which is a huge turnaround for a team that depended upon short field to execute their methodical brand of offense.

Kevin Huber is going to be the key to this game just like he was the key to the Rutgers game. If he can consistently put UConn on 80 and 90 yard fields UConn won't score that much. Which is key because I think Pike is going to struggle to put up 21 or more.
we will win by 17??????

hahah...ok. That'd be great. I still have this as a loss. I hope I'm wrong.
Was over on UCONN scout.....one of them has uconn winning 30-10....about lost my drink all over my computer screen when I read that one.

Just win baby.....let's go UC!!!!

Be optimistic, I always predict Bearcat blowouts. I do think we are the favorites and we should win this game, by whatever margin. I'm more worried about the Louisville and WVU road games. Kelly can open the offense back up and stop playing the field position game because we have a more experienced QB back.
27-3.

All over again.
