NCAA DEFENSIVE RANKINGS

#19 Not to shabby.

Other notables:

#41 Miami OH
#55 Ball St.
#57 EMU (Go figure)
Also #15 in scoring D
How is EMU #57? Everyone says that Toledo is terrible on offense and we scored 41 points at EMU.
#19 is overated. The D has been good, but three of the last four weeks have been against pitiful offenses, skewing the numbers. We'll drop back to #40 or #50 by the end of the year.

Opponent offensive rankings

Minnesota 66
WMU 27
Indiana State - N/A
EMU 54
Tennessee 104
Miami OH 101

I don't want to sit here and say you are wrong, because who knows how it will end up, but I will say I totally disagree.

Here is why...have you seen the ranks on O of the teams we will play? Ball State is good, at #20, but then after that it's roughly the same rankings of teams that we have currently played and handled OK.

So I guess I am wondering why you think these teams, who are ranked generally the same, will do so much better against us?

We play teams ranked, 60, 61, 46, 77

Not exactly a step up. And that Tennesee rank is skewed...they play in the SEC, if they were in a conference that didn't have NFL players at about every position they could probably pop a good game in there and be ranked at least in the top 70.
Impressive feat by NIU. Jerry Kill, the coaching staff and the players have lots to be proud of.

We play teams ranked, <20>, 60, 61, 46, 77

Not exactly a step up.

The average rank of these five teams is 53.

If we plug in 119 for Indiana State, the average of teams played is 78. And that isn't exaggerating Indiana State - their 198 yards of total offense per game is 46 yards/game behind the team with the worst total offense in D1-A.

The difference between 53 and 78 is significant ... it's the difference between being in the 35th percentile and 55th percentile on a scale of 119 teams.

So you think the difference between 53 and 78 is enough to drop us 20 to 30 spots?

I find that very hard to believe, it's not like we are playing top 40 squads! We play exactly 1 the rest of the way (and might I add that 1 is down a significant playmaker).

I hardly see that enough to drop us 20 to 30 spots, maybe we will settle in around 25 or 30, but not 40 or 50 based on who we play.

Tennessee played UAB (which the scored 35 on) and us - they should have scored more on us if they were a good team so I think the 109 Offense is justified.
