mainly because I was afraid of being banned for "too much negativity", but here goes.......

Last night was without a doubt, one of the poorest excuses I've EVER seen for a 60 minute team effort. To have the 1st half lead we had, and then to totally quit in the second half was IN-EX-CUSE-A-BULL. You would think a team that was as desparate for a win as we were would actually INCREASE the intensity in the 3rd and 4th quarter, but what did we do? We sat back and let Houston run at will against our......(excuse me for chuckling when I say this)....."defense".

I would have liked to have seen a team that had some pride and knew it was about to win one of the biggest games in recent memory ON THE ROAD mind you....instead we out and out flippin' quit with a huge capital Q !!!!!!

I'm tired of defending this team's youth....and inexperience.....and lack of depth......and lack of scholarships.....and holdover from Zero.....and lack of playmakers......

Instead, I'll say this.....effort takes no talent, nothing but want to, pure and simple. Until I see this bunch start to respond like somebody just slapped them up side of the head and they're going to beat the holy crap out of them, instead of saying "Thank you sir, may I have another?", I'm resigned to say this team, this staff is going to continue to disappoint and accept sub-mediocrity as a given. It's up to the coaches, and right now, they're not motivating anybody to play 60 full minutes all out.

Say what you want to about UAT, but I'll say this......when was the last time you saw a Nick Saban team quit? It sure ain't happening this year.
You had me 'til that last sentence.

I think Bobby Johnson would be a better example. He took a program that doesn't expect to win and they're winning.

The Todd thinks winning is a birthright.

They think that because they've won so much, it feels that way. I'd love for UAB to have that problem.
Agree with your whole post. The whole team gave up, soon as that punt was muffed. Coaches included. We should have gone for those 4th and 1's..... but coaches gave up, had no confidence in the team.... If you believe you'll lose, you lose.

It's very sad, frankly. 03-puke

I agree, but the Vanderbilt model still would have been more germaine.

There we go again...First of all, WE ARE NOT UAT.

Besides, comparing UAB to UAT is apples and oranges. Of course UAT won't quit, they have the players, money, and coaches.

Now when was the last time you saw a Southern Miss. team quit or a Boise State.

So, in other words, if you DON'T have the players, money, and coaches, quitting is perfectly acceptible? Sorry, I can't buy into your premise.

You don't have to money, or coaches, or even talent to play without quitting and to play with heart. Those things you mentioned have nothing to do with whether or not quitting is a viable alternative. All it takes is guts.

Right now, I'm wondering where ours are at.
I saw players that were exhausted in the second half. Some I believe played the whole game and we know how much the defense was on the field.

Do we? Tired is an excuse for our players just outright being a step slower than Houston's.

Tired? Possession Time: 34:34 to 25:26 in favor of UAB. Offensive plays: 78 to 71 in favor of UAB.

Good points, though I would point out Houston's offense was like a friggin' track meet, setting an incredibly phrenetic pace.

They were one the line, not huddling, getting the play called and the ball snapped with 20 seconds on the clock.

Maybe not tired as in, warn down, but rather tired as in, gassed.
I'd hate to tell the entire Blazertalk crew "I told you so", but I just did, didn't I....

I'm a UAB Football fan, all the way. This has to do with the coaching staff. It is time to wipe the slate clean, and find a good D-II coach that has a proven winning record.

Neil Callaway is being allowed to complete his demolition job of this program, unless somebody stands up in high places and fires him.

It's much easier [for UH] to play offense when you're scoring as fast as Houston did in the second half.
Defense [for UAB] during that stretch, not so much [fun].

That would complete the demolition. Now, if we are this bad next year, then I'll sing a different tune.

I'll be the first to admit we're not UAT, but RB's facts are correct. How often have they quit this year? Compare that to 2003-2006, when they quit game in and game out under Shula.

When you make a statement that "Of course they won't quit, they have the players, money, and coaches" that's the same as giving an OK to quitting if you're without an abundance of those things. You're right, we don't have UAT's resources, but one thing we do have that I don't think is any part of UAT right now is the desire to fold up shop and phone it in when the opportunity presents itself. What happened last night in the 2nd half should never, ever happen, I don't care how depleted you are of other talent or depth. You can't give up over 40 points in a half without a large degree of quitting occurring.
Thankyou Razer. We need more real UAB fans like you that are tired of excuses and will say the things that are needed to be said. I dont expect a national championship in football but i do expect my team to show up in the second half. Hell if you run the ball 3 times into the line and take as much time as needed doing so you cant give up 42 points in a half. Poor coaching. Not much to be excited about as a Blazer fan right now. Wait, perhaps now that basketball is about to start we can look forward to another N.I.T. trip at the end of the season. Seriously, someone tell me why they think this team will do much better. Hope im wrong but...
I am looking forward to a NIT trip. AT THE START OF THE SEASON. NY or BUST!

This team will do much better because of good luck, (We are due for some) Senior leadership, the defensive attack we will employ, good coaching, and PDIII.

Please do tell..........................
Let's just say we will be forcing the issue more on defense and take advantage of our quickness and athleticism to help compensate for our lack of size.

You will also see some very strange lineups during the games. It will be a very fun year.

You could see a linup everybody 6'6 and under. You could see a lineup with every body 6'5 and taller.
