Disappointing? - maybe. Unexpected? - not so much. The people picking these finishes see last year's record combined with the fact that only a few players return and they are mostly pretty young. Throw in the number of new faces on the team this year and it would be hard for them to project a high finish. They probably didn't even do much research on any of the MAC teams, just a blanket glance and predicted order of finish. If there was this type of weak effort on Blue Ribbon's part, that prediction is predictable! I don't think it is a big deal, but at the same time gives the guys something to work towards and to play with a 'chip on their shoulder'. Good things will happen, it is just going to take some time.
Even knowing more about MAC ball...I'd still predict that.
Folks, this is going to be another tough year. They lack size and there outside threats are young. Take Jake, throw in some Storm and DiNunno, take the Colorado kids and add our fantastic 2009 class and we'll be formidabble in the next 2-4.
As Kenny says, "One of these days, just not today.."
MD who cares? Your favorite baseball team was predicted to finish fourth out of 5 and look how that turned out. Play the games, predictions don't mean anything.

football was also picked for last by many prognosticators and last place looks unlikley at the moment.
Even with an underclassman dominated roster NIU will do better than last place in the MAC West. I place little faith in these basketball ranking services. I'd bet the ranch this latest "prognosticator" has never talked to Coach Patton directly or has credible basis of assessment of any player on the roster. These ranking services only have mild relevance for the big conferences and the top programs.
I wonder how many of you have ever seen a copy of the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook. I have been a long time subscriber. The magazine is about 1” thick and is THE most comprehensive magazine analysis on College Basketball. Last year they picked Kent to win the East, Western to win the West, and they did. They picked NIU to finish fifth and we finished sixth. I do hope we we have a better season than last season. But after watching last years team, they are probably right that we will be fighting Ball State for fifth or sixth…….
I think Coach Storm had an excellent analysis on this subject…….
Hopefully Coach Patton will put this on the bullitin board in the locker room to motivate the players and staff, to improve this season……..

it's not that easy.. post an article and it leads you to some magical season. If it were that easy, a team picked last would never finish last. This ain't a Disney movie.. it's gonna be an ugly year.
