NIU has mens and womens club rugby and a hockey team.
(see NI STAR Tuesday, Sept 30)

I thought hockey disbanded @NIU years ago for lack of funds & finding convenient ice time.

Why doesn't DeKalb/Sycamore have a rink? With BHawks on upswing, the opportunity to build a youth hockey progam should be a long range priority for both towns.

Could the "twin cities" eventually field a team and compete against Rockford Ice Hogs and other in state programs?

HAVE A VISION.
I knew about all 3 for a long time.
i am sure you mean the rockford icemen? the rockford icehogs are a professional team, the AHL blackhawks affiliate. but the icemen, which is a combined high school team, have won something like 12 straight state championships. does DeKalb even have a rink? besides the new "temp" one
There's a club bowling team too.
There was a club hockey team last year. I watched them play at the Fox Valley Ice Arena.
All those teams have been around for a while

I know some guys from the hockey team, and went to a game a couple years ago and the rink actually had the NIU logo on the rink. It was pretty cool

they are back at fox valley? I thought they were up in the north burbs last season.

Youth programs in Chicagoland/Catholic league , NTHS are pretty strong.

Would they NOT be a potential feeder system to support NIU team hockey - someday?

Which womens team (field hockey) could also be added to MAC for it would become a title IX requirement to add mens ice hockey.

MAC has a few decent hockey programs which compete with the big boys.

Pinch me then chant my mantra: "It's about the money, stupid."

Actually I'm wrong they weren't at Fox Valley, but whatever the name of the Ice Arena next to the Kane County Cougars stadium is. That's where I saw them last year.
There will never be hockey at NIU. Too $$$. Or Rugby. No interest.

Though I think a lacrosse team might be a future possibility as that sport grows..... maybe 20-30 years away.....

right.. the hockey team is not funded by the school, correct? i thought i read that somewhere.

hockey is definitely an expensive sport (just ask U of I) and for as little national interest there is for it, only the well established schools can maintain a program (Michigan, Minnesota, etc). Until there is a bigger following in the US, smaller schools will just have to make do with what they have.
Such a vision of an NIU hockey team is grandiose but none the less worth bullsh!tting .

go to Ice Hockey

Falcons have been a respectable hockey program in CCHA. Check out Miami Redhawks

Why not NIU?

Chill out Huskies fans.

Get new Blackhawk leadership to partner & help $ponsor a team with a popular local DeKalb vendor - other than beer. Cross promote games. Build a Blackhawks' youth fan base in western burbs and at NIU where so many chogoland NIU students live.
