Mike didn't schedule the conference games. CUSA did, and every conference team has week offs during the season.

I think we were 0-5 last year when we had a week off.
This season we are 1-1.
This season we are 1-1.

Not every team does.
According to the schedules on their respective websites, neither Cincinnati nor Louisville went Saturday to Saturday without a game in between all season.
I wonder how the conference decides who gets the week off (or two weeks, in UAB's case) during the season?

That would have been one week; UAB had two.
Louisville played Tennessee on a Saturday, otherwise they might have gone a Wednesday to Wednesday. That was their only non-conference game once conference play started.

My point is that not everyone has one, let alone two.
Certainly, UAB should be able to schedule non-conference games if necessary. Perhaps Coach Anderson prefers not to do that for some reason.

You wouldnt want to face an Illinois in the middle of conference play, but a good team from a mid-major school... why not? CMA should look into that if you ask me.

And, in my opinion, he should make sure that ALL teams in the league have the same number of week-long breaks between games.

When did we have a two weeks off this season? I know last year we had something like eleven days off, but that was for final exams in December. I looked at my schedule and can't see where we took two weeks off.
As far as playing non conference games in the middle of conference season, UAB used to do that during the Great Midwest days, mainly because the Great Midwest only had six or seven teams. Bartow always complained that it took the focus away from the team on the conference race.
We should only play a non conference game after December if
A. it is a post season tournament
or
B. It is a made for TV game.
No cupcakes or mid majors.
Unfortunately with new CUSA, in a couple of years, I bet we will be a part of the bracket buster Saturday.

I stand corrected on Cincinnati and Louisville. I don't consider starting conference play three days later than everyone else to be the same as a week off between games, though.
I also agree with Memphis about the non-conference games in conference play. There is no point in playing a weak to mid-level team, and I don't think UAB is going to get many upper-level teams to play in the middle of their respective conference seasons.
