Full Version: Who Will UAB Open the NIT With?

The Team did play better today but let's face it the NCAA chase ended with the ECU lose. I'm glad to see Mike give the younger guys some significant PT. Little, Tobias, and Jones are NOT the kind of players that will take you to the big dance. Mike needs to give them their wallking papers after the season and go and get some REAL players.

As far as the NIT goes I would like to see a machup between the Blazers and Arkansas. The game would be on he Hogs floor but it would be interesting.
I'd love us to get to play a big time program. They wont schedule us in the regular season, so it'd be good to be forced to in the NIT. Arkansas comes to mind. Indiana will also probably only be in the NIT... maybe a Temple or something too. But please, I dont want to just play a bunch of Northeasterns or Drexels.
I'm not going to discuss NIT opponents until we lose that last game in the CUSA tournament. Nobody in this conference team is unbeatable right now. Louisiville gets blown out at home by Memphis, almost gets beat by us. Memphis is playing well but they struggled like they always do at Southern Miss. Anyone can win the conference tournament. If we get past the first game, we can easily go to the championship game.

In 2003, from 1/14 to 2/15, Mike Anderson's team went 3-5, and then lost three straight to end the season. That team made it to the championship game.

I am not giving up on an NCAA bid. I don't even believe an at large bid is completely out of the question. If Memphis thinks they can get one with 10 losses, why do we don't think we can with 9 losses. Don't talk to me about schedules. Our SOS is stronger than the Tigers.
MB hard to disagree with you but with the injures id doesn't look good. You are correct, we still have a shot.

Oponents in NIT? SEC, ACC team on the road or a Sun Belt, MWC MAC, or WAC team at home.

Difficult to say.

I would love a shot at Tennessee if they get to .500 or a trip to Vandy, that would be interesting with DeMarre' up there.
What about a Colorodo State or Wyoming at home?

I'm kind of with MB though, it ain't over yet. Let's just win the whole damn thing in Memphis. 04-rock I recall several past UAB teams running the table and getting into the dance.

Memphis, please fill us in on how many times this has happened.
UAB won the Sun Belt tourney in 1981-82 but probably would have made it in anyway. That team finished with 25-6 record and went to Elite 8.

UAB won the Sun Belt the next year and made tourney, finishing at 19-14.

UAB won Sun Belt tourney in 83-84 but may have gotten in anyway. Finished 23-11.

UAB won SB tourney in 86-87 and finished 21-11. I'd say they were bubble but probably would've gotten in anyway.

UAB has never won the conference tourney as a member of Great Midwest/C-USA -- and actually went from 1990-91 to 1995-96 without winning a conference tournament game.

We don't want to play Vandy @ Vandy.
My guess is Northeastern and Drexel feel exactly the same way. Does B-ham-Southern have any shot at the NIT? Or Samford?

I would say at this point that Samford has a better shot, but I dont really expect either to make it honestly.
Hate to burst the bubble (no pun intended) of those that think there is still a shot for an at large berth.

As of this morning, UAB's RPI is #87 with a strength of schedule ranking of #121. And 0-4 versus the RPI top 50. Plus a loss against a team with a sub 200+ RPI.

Sorry guys....You are going to have to win 4 games in 4 days in Memphis to get an invitation to the big dance. On the bright side, after watching the team yesterday, it may be possible...just depends on seedings and matchups.
The Big Dance for Cincy = Getting bounced in the first round. Adios.
Wanna trade spots???? 15 straight years in the Big Dance. That's what I thought, Joyboy. 03-nutkick

Look at it this way, Blazin Saddles. Going to the NIT this year may get you mentally prepared for your one bid conference next year.

Crew was complimenting how well your team has been playing lately and you come back and take a shot at Cincy. Real classy

Where's the compliment?

Sounds to me like he's hoping UAB doesnt make the NCAAs. That's alright if you dont think we can win 4 games in 4 days... I guess you have a short term memory and fail to realize that we almost did that very thing two years ago.
