From Ivan Maisel's chat today (going on now)

Quote:Gill Minneapolis., MN: Now does it look like the Alabama Board of Trustee' veto of Jimbo Fisher's contract with Alabama Birmigham ended-up doing the Blazer's a favor?

Ivan Maisel: (2:27 PM ET ) I wouldn't go there. Neil Callaway hasn't exactly turned around the Blazers yet.
I am confused on how that is a humorous jab at Fisher. 03-confused
I'd categorize it as more of a zing than humorous jab.
I thought it was humorous (its probably sad really) that a guy from MN knows more about what went on with our coaching search than 95% of this state....

Ill retitle it for the confused.
Not just the Wake game, nearly every game under Fisher so far.
FSU has yet to put up 30+ points on a "BCS" opponent in the Fisher era.
isn't he the head coach in waiting at FSU?

His buyout is not large enough that he wouldn't be passed over if a better option was available.

I see it more of a jab at Callaway rather than Fisher. Maybe I am reading it wrong or not reading enough into it. Oh well.
Can we please get past the Jimbo Fisher debacle?

OK, so we got the sharp shaft regarding our HC hire, in the words of many on this board......personally, I disagree, but that's the standard feeling most regular posters seem to expound on, on a very regular basis.

It's over and done with,....let's move on, for gosh sakes. We don't have Jimbo Fisher, we have a coach that played under a college football legend, coached under one, and was on the staff of maybe THE up and coming coach in America ( tell the truth, who wouldn't want to have Mark Richt as a head coach of their program right now? ). We need to support the staff, regardless of the current record and regardless of who is or ISN'T on our sideline with a headset.

What do you think the feeling of players and staff is when they read or hear a continuing diatribe daily about us NOT HAVING JIMBO FISHER ? Good grief, tell me ONE thing the guy has ever done, besides running FSU's already dormant offense further into the ground.

I say let's throw our support behind CNC and staff, and forget about continually dwelling on what, or who, we don't have. We ain't getting Jimbo Fisher. I say good deal.

You are missing the focus of what everyone is upset about. It is not Jimbo Fisher, it is the BOT not allowing UAB to choose their own coach and allow us the autonomy due to us as they allow other schools in the system. We could have been about to hire Pedro Sanchez of the Mexican City Football League who had just finished the season 1-12, and if the BOT did not allow us to make that bad decision, I would have been just as upset.

It's not about Callaway and its not about Fisher.
BTR, I thought you only leaked the info on Pedro Sanchez to me?
Now every BCS school in America will be going after Coach S.

I'd say being the OC of a National Championship team (LSU under Sabin) is something. Sabin also made it no secret that he wanted Jimbo to be his OC at Bama, so he must think that Jimbo deserves some of the credit.

We can support Coach Callaway and still be aware of the fact that the BOT crossed the line. If the rest of America is still talking about it why shouldn't UAB fans?

With all due respect LSU backed into a championship, USC was by far the best team. I for one believe Jimbo would have been a bad hire. Jimbo goes as far as talent can take him. After leaving I believe LSU won another championship, after he left. And, I believe that offense was superior with a far less talented QB. I remember the AU QB coach tenure. After the Dye talent left, the offense was pathetic.

And, as much as you can blame the BOT, if Jimbo really wanted the opportunity to prove himself as a head coach, he could always have asked for less money. Sometimes to get were you want to in your life you have to take a monetary step backwards.

Agreed.

20 years from now, we'll still see a segment of fans on this board harping about not getting Jimbo Fisher. I also have to agree with Redeemed, what message are we sending to the team and coaches if we constantly gripe about who isn't coaching our team, rather than on supporting the man that is. Don't think that they don't read this stuff.

And Jimbo Fisher? If what we're seeing at FSU is his best work, let the Criminoles have him. Our offense is just fine.
Something to consider:

If Callaway, and by extension, UAB is successful, then the BoT can and likely will say "I told you so", even though it will be more true that UAB succeeded in spite of, not because of, their meddling.

Would that be Pedro "Dirty" Sanchez?

03-lmfao
Any time one thing is changed in history it is thought all other factors would go on the same. If Fisher HAD been hired, would the greater "buzz" about the program have made a positive difference in recruiting and increased public awareness of UAB FB ? PROBABLY. Would more of the players who defected, stayed so we had more players instead of only 60? PROBABLY. Would Fisher have had the same APR problems with the same scholarship loss from it? PROBABLY. There is no guarantee though that some of those who moved to Samford with Coach Sullivan would not have done so anyway.

It is a pointless game of "woulda, coulda, shoulda" that is fun once in a while, but bears no fruit in reality. We are where we are and we have who we have. It's like day dreaming that the gorgeous girl we almost asked out might have fallen in love with us. "Might haves" don't do us much good except to make us less satisfied with who we have since we continue to believe we "deserved" better.
The next time someone starts a Fisher thread on this board, please ban that person.
