Would explain why i never got a response back from Jeff Compher. This is very disappointing.
Good to know we have a spineless athletic director.
Confirms what I've been saying all along...

I can quote an NIU player telling me to my face "Wisconsin is saying neutral field or no game at all"

And it should have been no game at all. Fresno State is an example of how to run a mid major program, we just found out today we have a spineless atheltic director.

I for one, will not be renewing season tickets next year.

That's funny because this article makes it to seem as its only our doing. That we are the one's who want the game there.
Also, JP was hailed as a hero for getting us a game at SF. Now Compher is spineless? Why are message boards populated by bomb throwers who think that the only valid opinion on any given subject is their own?

Disagreeing isn't enough. The other person must be an idiot or spineless.
if you can do the Wisc game at Soldier Field and in all probably make $1.5 mill, you would prosecuted for malfeasence if you did not do it. That is a big payday with minimal expenses. It is better then a bowl game
mad dawg, I would watch your description of ath personnel. Jeff Compher is a very established AD and we are lucky to him after JP. I think it unwise to call people names. To not buy tickets next year if the W game is not played at Huskie Stadium is crazy and childish.

Can't blame ya.. I hate to say it but seems like our new AD is more interested in making as much $$ as possible. Does he view NIU as a stepping stone?

MD, you are dead on about Fresno State.. here's today's news story regarding the Bulldog AD getting it done once again: http://gobulldogs.cstv.com/sports/m-foot...08aae.html

You'll love this.
I can't be the only one who wants Wisconsin in SF. I mean I'd love to have them in DeKalb, but I loved the SF game and hope we do it again.

I hope to do it every year.. but we just gave up the opportunity to face a Big Ten team... an UPPER LEVEL Big Ten team AT HOME!! 03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead

Paying $30 for parking, extremely high concession stand prices, few portapotties, and having to deal with immature Iowa fans are just some things that i didn't like about the SF game.

Why can't we move the 2010 game to SF? Why can't we find another team to play us in SF? We don't have to give up our best home game in years to do it again.
I'm certainly not surprised by this development...but I am disappointed nonetheless.... Wisconsin @ Huskie Stadium would have been one of those magical mastercard moments....priceless...

But we'll take the payday and Jeff Compher gets a notch in his belt / resume ala Jim Philips with the Soldier Field game...

I still think you could have made financial sense of this game at Huskie Stadium.

What do you mean "we'll take the payday"?? As a fan, what do YOU expect to get in return for this game being played at SF? Moving the game to SF takes away not only a great opportunity, but also creates an inconvenience for a lot of our fans who could otherwise attend. Will these same fans see anything in return for the inconvenience?? Doubtful.
$1 to $1.5 Mill. Do any of you realize what that means to the program. Besides the Big Ten has indicated that they will continue to do these only at neutral venues.
.
Maddawgz, you really aren't this dumb are you? Playing Wisconsin at Soldier Field will make NIU an incredible amount of money, much more than playing them at Huskie Stadium would. As gcd said, it's better than a bowl game in that regard. To call our AD "spineless" for bringing more money into the program and getting Wisconsin to play us somewhere other than Madison is just not intelligent. I bet you were one of the people praising Jim Phillips for getting Iowa to play NIU at that very same facility too. To judge Compher over something like this is just ridiculous.

The fans here might prefer to see the football team playing Wisconsin at home, but NIU is a non BCS program, and as much as people don't like to hear it, the money that will be made playing Wisconsin in Chicago is MUCH more important than the excitement of playing them on campus. For a non BCS program like NIU to make a six digit sum like a million dollars, if not more like 1.5 million, to play Wisconsin at a neutral site is just incredibly good value. Not to mention, Wisconsin clearly would have backed out of playing NIU before they'd ever have played them in a true road game.

It's not about the fans, it's about the money. If you don't like it, don't follow sports because that is how it is in all of them, college and pro.

Illinois playing at Fresno State is not neutral. Otherwise, schedule BE or Big 12 schools like Baylor and Iowa State in 1-for-1's.

If this conference wants to grow it cannot continue to sell itself out to the BT. Start demanding home games or go out and find someone who will play us at home.

Im not meaning to call people names I apologize for that, the act is spineless not the person. I just find it disturbing that he has received plenty of comments and mail from students and alumni stating excitement for a long awaited game in Huskie Stadium and it appears as though his first order of business on the job was scheduling Soldier Field. Trav is right about the stepping stone thing and I know that is what we have to expect with a mid major program like NIU, but take a look at the link trav posted with Fresno State, there is no reason we should not be able to schedule those kind of opponents. Now this Wisconsin debacle will just set further precedence that NIU is not serious about ever upgrading their own schedule. Highly disappointing. Sure Wisconsin would have maybe paid NIU off and not played the game, but you have to establish some type of precedence like Fresno State has with refusing to play Wisconsin in Lambeau Field. (p.s. wisconsin played that game @ Fresno State)

The fact Im not renewing next year does not mean I won't go to a few games, but the lack of commitment to upgrade the home schedule and to NIU fans has really led to my lack of commitment in the investment. If that makes me a bad fan, then I'm a bad fan.

So let them back out and pay us for canceling the rest of the series. Then turn around and use that money to bring in another school. I don't care if BCS programs decide to back out of deals because they are too cowardly to play us at home. Just don't do business with those schools anymore and if you do make sure the buyout is a lot more steep the next time around.
