To improve attendance, they should not play at all in any week when OSU plays.

Lies, damn lies and statistics. There were MAYBE 1,000 people at EMU. (Half were Toledo fans, no lie.) That stat is a sick joke.

What EM from Toledo, 40 miles. Toledo should have had 10,000 there. That game should be in Toledo season ticket package. The MAC has to get more creative in getting people in the stands. It also should have been night game with Mich playing ND.
With EM at BG on 10-4, BG should have marketing people at EM 9-27 offering WKend package, tickets & free tickets for EM students to come down
And another thing, MAC got to get thier ass in gear. Sun Belt is improving by leaps & bounds. Will not be long before these midwest kids start looking to the south to play

Yeah, I saw that thread on the CUSA board too, complete with the obligatory digs at the MAC...

First, it's awfully easy to build a program in rapidly growing population areas with nice, pleasant weather through November*. USF came out of nowhere by virtue of being in a pretty sweet geographic location, not by some genius grassroots planning by ADs and university presidents.

Secondly, are we supposed to blown away and impressed by a bunch of Sun Belt "close call"s and woulda/shoulda/coulda moral victories against BCS opponents? This happens in each non-BCS conference each year, not to mention the top Div 1-AA conferences.

I mean, I like seeing any non-BCS team beat, or at least put a fine scare into, a BCS squad. Would've loved to see FAU pull off a victory against Sparty in the monsoon, instead of losing by 17. But let's not make the Sun Belt more spectacular than they are. And their home attendance figures aren't exactly setting the world on fire, either.

(* - Except for nasty hurricanes, of course)
BTW, that link is worth a click, if only just to glance at the photo in the original post.

True, but for how much longer will their population keep growing? 20 years ago Florida was the place to go. Today there is a growing trend that retired people are leaving and moving back to the cities and states of their families. And 20 years from now, Florida will be a constant disaster zone that is plagued with summer power outages that ensure no releaf from the stifling heat and humidity. As for USF, very likely in 20 years that school will be under water.

Why? I doubt there's actually anybody trying to get to both games. Maybe they should play doubleheaders and allow both to claim the combined attendance. BTW it didn't seem like 18000+ at Buffalo from what I saw on tv.

A double header at Browns Stadium would be neat, and probably what the Patriot Bowl should have done from the beginning. The two fanbases would attend both games just to harass each other.

I too did not see 18,000+ from the views they showed on TV. I think that some of the MAC schools are a bit creative (another term for dishonest) in coming up with their attendance figures.

On the other end, I believe that WMU consistenty under reports their attrendence. Their last game was packed with spill over onto the end zone hills and they only reported 26,000. Last year during the IU game there was not an empty seat in the house and the annuncers had to constatly tell the spill over crowd(standing room only and hill) not to stand in front of the bleacher seats and block other peoples view and yet still, according to the official attendence, we did not sell out.
How many times does the point have to be made that the NCAA reported attendance does not have to be butts in seats, but can be tickets sold? Either is OK, and both are meaningless because the NCAA pulled all the teeth out the attendance requirement. Nobody is "cheating" because they don't have to.
I swear that some folks spend more time talking attendance than football. And this in a conference where the best crowds, the capacity crowds, are still small in the world of CFB.
The MAC should never talk about attendance period...Its like Polish Hammer talking about intelligence and ***** size... none and nothing.
One thing that hurt attendance is it was a very humid day across the state of Ohio.

According to the Miami board only 5,000 butts in seats.

Quote:* I miss seeing people in reserve sections 2/6. Did they really announce 13K yesterday- I think we are back to inflating attendance. There couldn't have been more than 5K in the stadium-it was the empiest I have ever seen the Yager lot.

As a MWC I feel bad for the MAC. They are doing relatively well in nonAQ games, yet they can't get the attendance numbers up.

They really do need to schedule more BCS teams at home or neutral sites and get their attendance numbers up. I think scheduling weekday games might be the best thing for the MAC (even though it doesn't feel like college football) except for the better teams in the league.

Why would a road game be on any team's season ticket package?

As for Toledo fans travelling, the game was played in a monsoon and it rained all night and morning before the game. I am sure there were people that just didn't feel like making the drive to the game with the rain. 2nd, EMu is never a big draw because they just aren't good and appealing to our fans. Third, we've had two straight 5-7 seasons and lost our opener at Arizona. Our fanbase is pretty down right now. The last time we had two consecutive losing seasons was in the 70's and the last losing season before 2006 was 1994. Our fans are not used to losing and will jump off the bandwagon faster because of it.
