=>Marquis Horne of Princeton H.S. in Cincy commits to Ohio. I have seen Marquis ranked anywhere from #14 in Ohio/#5 WF in good year for WFs (Jerry Watson) to as high as #5/#2 WF (Brian Snow). Prep Spotlight has him #11 overall.
Nice. Hopefully, the other dominoes fall into place.
My first reaction: Da*n, we anted him. My second: congrats t0 the Bobcats.
Stole one highly regarded recruit from Kent State this week. He made the final decision after visiting Athens.

Guess what? We are about to do it again to KSU.

Quote:Thanks mollautt. It's interesting that the Sun-Times reports Cooper visited Kent this weekend; Scout.com had been reporting that Cooper would visit Kent this Saturday, the 13th.

Hopefully Cooper still takes his scheduled trip to Athens, to give us a chance to outrecruit Kent.

Ohio is also in the process of poaching a top 10 state prospect from Big East school Cincinnati.

Quote:Strong, physical and athletic 4-man. Moves well and is very aggressive on the glass. He can rebound in crowds. Very good hands, and when he touches the ball, he gets the rebound. He is very strong and a rough finisher around the basket. He is headed to Cincinnati and the Big East. This power forward is very physical playing defense. Quick feet - he can front the post.

Ohio is signing 3 of the in-state top 10 prospects this year. A recruiting class unparalleled in the history of the program.

04-cheers
2009 Ohio depth chart
pg Dobbs so, Cooper fr?
sg Coleman so, Waters so
sf Freeman 6-4 jr, Horne 6-6 fr, Sayles 6-5 jr
pf Washington 6-8 jr, McElroy 6-8 fr?
C Pearson 6-9 so, KVK 6-10 sr, Natgzaam 6-11 so

The upper classmen are role players and the top athletic talent will be the sophmores and freshmen. MCElroy, Horne and Cooper could push the starters early at 3 positions early as freshmen if they all end up at Ohio. Type of nucleus that elite teams that go on a 2-3 year run. Groce has the size allready and getting the skilled players around them is his mission this year,
McElroy is by no means in our pocket. No counting the chickens before they're cooked and on the plate.
Like clockwork, Kit Cat proclaims non-verbaled/unsigned players in the bag. ouBJ then provides the depth chart for the 2011-2012 season.

By the way Kit Cat/ouBJ, we still have a a final scholarship to give to take us to 13 players. Who else is guaranteed?

At least it didn't prompt a conference shuffle/realignment post ... 03-shhhh
Based on what I've read at BobcatAttack.com and Troopsports.com, I wouldn't consider us the front runners for either Cooper or McElroy at this point. Cooper apparently really enjoyed his visit to Kent, while BUGS is believed to have the inside track to McElroy. Groce may be able to outrecruit Kent and BUGS - and if so that would be a great sign for the future of the program - but until then I wouldn't count my chickens before they are hatched.
Even if we only get 1 out of the 2, there are still plenty of talented, top ranked players that Groce is going after. I'm not worried. When do season tix for bball go on sale?
=>Ohio is a finalist for Jonathan Smith. Final 3 are Ohio, St. Louis, and Xavier. Xavier has not offered Smith and is waiting to see if Kevin Parrom (top 100 player) commits to X first. If that falls through, the Muskies may offer Smith.
=>Reggie Keely is also in play!
Who is Keely?
If we get either of those two, that would be huge.
Wow, having hired Groce appears to be paying dividends already! and he hasn't even coached Game One yet! pretty cool!

Something is fishy with Cooper's story. His visit dates sure changed around a lot. Makes me wonder if someone like Brandon Williams isn't already in the bag. I also wouldn't rule out that we have guys like Chadwick and Smith higher on OUr board than McElroy.
