In what should be one of the more exciting home contests of the year, I see we play SIU on Dec 17 when everyone is on break, that sucks.
Odds SIU fans outnumber NIU fans?

Ill guess it will be an even split of 2000 on each side.
Has the schedule been released? If not, when?
Do the students know we have a bball team?

That is a great question. I just saw it on SIU's site, they have released their schedule. Seems with the MAC the conference schedules are always released so late. Looking at the archived news stories on NIU's site, they released the 07-08 schedule on Sep 5th last year, so hopefully it is not too far off.
Should be solid.
I'm excited to have a top Missouri Valley Conference team come to DeKalb. What SIU has been able to accomplish and largely sustain in basketball is great. The MAC isn't remotely in the class of the MVC, but regardless this should be a quality contest that attracts bigger than normal crowd at the Convocation Center. If you can call typical abysmal attendance at the Convo a "crowd."

Yep, really had no intention of turning this into a MAC bashing session, just wanted to express some frustration this game could not occur when students were around.

This game will draw a better than normal crowd. I think we could see a majority of SIU fans in the stands given that school will be out. This is a game that I will make every effort to attend.

This morning looking up and down the basketball roster I kind of salivate at the prospects when Tyler Storm is a JR and Jake Anderson is a SR. NIU may not win the West this year, but it seems almost impossible to not be excited about the fact they will be able to keep a core group of players together for an extended time, something that has been really hard for this program to achieve.
NIU basketball is going to be better than people think in 2008-09. Let's face it, the MAC sucks. Of most important note I'm convinced Ricardo Patton can win in this conference relatively quickly. Even with a plethora of underclassman playing this season.
Does anyone know what other teams NIU is playing this year?

Here is what I can come up with so far.

November 18th Indiana State at DeKalb
November 21st Tennessee State at Nashville
November 26th Portland State at Great Alaska Shootout
November 28th Hampton or Alaska Anchorage at Great Alaska Shootout
November 29th Louisiana Tech, San Diego State, Western Carolina or Seattle at Great Alaska Shootout
December 17th Southern Illinois at DeKalb
All I know is that I hope Jeff Compher makes it job # 1 to improve our home basketball schedule. There needs to be more Saturday matchups at the Convocation Center. Seems to me we are always the ones with the less desireable MAC conference home schedule. Why is that? The Ohio and Michigan schools always have more attractive home schedules.

We are playing Loyola-Chicago at home I think, but not sure of the date.
Can you say..."another home game for SIU" Yuk
Sorry if the formatting is not clean, but I think you can read it. I'm sure it will be on the Web site soon, but I think the hang up was maybe waiting for the conference games to be released, as mentioned by someone in an earlier post.

Wow thanks coach storm!!
No problem. Glad to help out. The thanks goes to Coach Wicks for sending it to me a short time ago when it got finished.
The Huskies are basically non-existent at home until late mid to late December.
