I just read that the attendance was 10,788 for the Kent game in Cleveland last night. Is that correct?
That is what ESPN is reporting. This will probably end the relationship between the MAC and the Cleveland Sports Commission. I can't see them trying a third game. The Zips did not draw well against Army last year for the Patriot Game.

I would love to see the MAC get more interest, in the OSU dominated, Cleveland market. Unfortunately, a Cleveland based game will have to include a team from the B10 to have enough appeal to the regular college football fan of NE Ohio.
Dumb idea. KSU athletic dept blew this one in the name of money...
The 4th edition of a MAC game at CBS for 2009 is still going to happen. It will be Toledo vs Ohio State. The first edition was actually the year before last when Bowling Green hosted Wisconsin.
That's a shame, MAC needs that game to work to grow & prosper, on paper the Patriot bowl sounded like a good idea. I envision the MAC to someday open up on labour day weekend in 7 NFL stadiums in thier footprint in bowl type atmosphere.
It's gonna get tougher to bring marque matchups into MAC stadium without a great atmosphere. next week MAC gets 3 more marque matchups at home, 2 sellouts & push for 40,000 would be step in the right direction
The Toledo/OSU game will be a sellout, 90% OSU fans.

It was a poor showing but I still would've figured it was more than that number, I've been to game that had less people there than Saturday night yet had larger announced attendances. labor Day Weekend is a poor time to draw, outside of Ohio State, the Browns or Notre Dame it's a very hard sell.

I'd say 70-30.
For this game to work the opponent needs to bring their share, or even more than their share, of fans to the game.

Teams like Wisconsin and Iowa travel well no matter how they are doing whereas Boston College didn't even sell out their on campus facility last year when they were ranked in the top 10 and played host to BG.

If you can't get a BCS team that travels well, what about a double header?

MAC vs. Service academy at Noon or 1pm then MAC vs. a decent draw team for the nightcap? (Service academies, Big Ten teams willing to travel, team with some intrigue??)
I like the idea of a double header as well. I think if you can at least get two big teams in the stadium (maybe each game is MAC vs. Big 10) then I think that will draw better. BC brought more than I thought, but it was primarily 2 to 3 sections worth of fans.
This should kill the Patriot Bowl experiment. Would have drawn 20-25k at Dix. Disapointed, but not really surprised.

And a big payday for Toledo.
And another home game for OSU.

I don't understand why they are not trying to have a Pitt or Penn State type of program in this game.

BC would have a hard time filling an NFL stadium in its own backyard.
BC travels well. 9K for BC to Cleveland is pretty good.

So what you are telling me KSU only brought 1,700 if even that?

I don't buy it.

BC brought ~500. Funny but there were twice as many people at this game as the Kent @ Temple game last year but that one somehow was announced as 16019 and this one at 10788.

Ahh, you never miss a chance, huh?

Attendance might have been different, but the end result for Kent was the same in both games.

I imagine 16k at Temple-Kent likely represented tickets sold, not cheeks in seats. Same as 10k for Kent-BC.
