Quote:Time Warner cable and the Big Ten Network have reached agreement on a carriage deal that will allow University of Wisconsin athletic events to be carried on the cable system.

Two sources with knowledge of the agreement say an announcement could be made as early as tonight. The agreement ends more than a year of off- and on- discussions between Time Warner, the major cable carrier in Wisconsin, and the year-old Big Ten Network.

A deal has yet to be reached with Charter Communications, which has cable service around the state, including Madison.

As recently as the weekend, Mark Silverman, president of the network, had expressed pessimism that he could reach agreement with Time Warner. There has been a sense of urgency to the talks because the start of the Big Ten football season is Saturday. UW meets the University of Akron on Saturday at Camp Randall, and the game is scheduled to be telecast on the network.

Time Warner wanted to put the network on a special sports tier; the Big Ten Network argued they belonged on basic cable for all subscribers to watch.

Details of the agreement were not immediately available.

Looks like the amount of MAC games that we can actually watch is about to go up significantly!02-13-banana
I know here in Michigan some Comcast subscribers got BTN added onto cable. Now at least the MSU/EMU game will be televised on it!
Wow. About freaking time....I was wondering if cable was worth it anymore with all these reality shows and re-runs of shows and movies everybody has seen 10,000 times. This network is the one I'll watch 10 hours on Saturday's.

This looks like a deal for just Time Warner in Wisconsin, and not Time Warner nationwide... Or am I missing something here? A network people will watch 10 times a year is the reason so many cable operators don't want to pay for it, but the exposure is great for the MAC OOC games.
It is for TW in Ohio and Wisconsin.
Based on what I've read, it looks like it's a deal for all Time Warner carriers within the Big Ten footprint because a story about it ran on The Detroit News website this morning. You're just reading localized newspaper coverage.
