I thought from reading the list of requirements they were going to choose someone with a medical background.

Of course, they still may, but none of these fellas have a medical background.

But really, I want to know how some of these guys got to the positions they have.

For instance, I was drawn to the application of Hoagland, simply because it stated he was from Akron.

I'm thinking "Akron. Okay. That's a football town. It's between Cleveland and Canton. What better place to get a guy from who will be inclined to bring back football!"

But check this guy's cover letter out-

"Dear Hiring Executive"

You're applying to be the President of a University, and your salutation is "Dear Hiring Executive?"

And then, I'm sorry, I am just cracking up, his opening line of the cover letter is

"This letter expresses an initial interest in the position for which I am offering statements of qualifications and/or list of references."

HOW DID THIS GUY GRADUATE WITH WRITING SKILLS LIKE THIS?

I mean elementary school. HOW DID HE PASS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL???

I'll be honest with you. I want somebody who will come from either a school that has started up football under his tenure or is from a school with a Division I-A program.

Davenport is an interesting guy. He used to be the President of a Community College but has also taught at a couple of football powers (Michigan and Washington) but also at a school that dropped football (Pepperdine).

But while that doesn't say much, what might is that he used to raise money, and a lot of it, for Florida Atlantic, which has recently started a football program.

Stay tuned.
I think we nominate our own candidate... based on these applicants, anything goes... where is TheDoctor when you need him.

Immma call some of these guys or at least drop an email to say hey. One guy is talking about what a premier institution etsu is for african-american students in the first line... I've some some Black folks that might give him thier opinion on that one...

At least we know they've advertised in the correct publications for the affirmative action rules, the USA might do it but I doubt etsu will take the plunge
bucten Wrote:What a pathetic list. At this time, not one significate university person has applied.

What do you mean? I see Chris Sliwa, Associate Professor of Spanish at Fayetteville State University on the list!
Could it possibly be so bad now that no one really wants it? I thought the list would be much more impressive than that.

Could it be so bad.

Possibly, the State budget is in a shambles and with no end to the economic downturn in sight, relying only on sales tax only puts state budgets in a precarious position. The State funding for higher education seems to be decreasing much faster than the lottery money is increasing. That does not make a President's position at any university in Tennessee a very attractive position.

FYI, I'm not particularly impressed with the candidates for Chancellor at UT either. That list of finalists was released this week.

It is early in the process and maybe more impressive candidates will emerge for the ETSU job. I hope!!
I think we have a few perfect candidates on this board!
NCAA Division 1 Soccer limit 9.9 scholarships (14 for females). It may be lower with the start of a new program, so the program will gradually build up to the limit. That is max allowable but the Ath Dept might also not fund all. Football was only funding 53 of 63 allowed scholarships near the end.
Here are my opponents.... http://www.tbr.state.tn.us/offices/chanc...214_4120_1
oooh my gawd. Is anyone as concerned as I am about all the community college people on the list?? I know we've joked about it for five years BUT I am shocked at all the "out of state" community college people... my vote is for the Frenchman, other than for myself, of course...

Let's hope the search firm earns the $74,000 and digs up some live bodies... this is concerning.... Sarah Palin suddenly looks over qualified for her job... she can just come to etsu and help get the place back in line like she did Alaska. She might not bring in football but we know she'd get us hockey!! Pitts dream come true!!
Maybe after the election Obama will apply - he's been a community organizer after all. We all know ETSU could certainly use some community organizing.

That list is unbelievable. I'm starting to see why they have promoted so many people from within the school in the past.
The hired head hunter has not yet "spoken" yet (the contacts made by the head hunter likely haven't applied yet), and it's still early in the process.
I suspect a lot of these guys apply everywhere they can, shotgunning it hoping to get lucky someday.

That list almost makes Stanton look good. Even the kill football one. And that is sad.

Truthfully the pre-football fiasco Stanton looks better than these guys.

Hopefully some other names will appear soon.
That list is truly abysmal. The school needs its money back if those are the chumps that were delivered to them by the headhunter. I hope GoBucsGo is correct, and more suckers...er...candidates are on the way.
So what are the chances that the paid help will go find Wayne Andrews?
I think Andrews rubbed too many people the wrong way, not just w/ the dropping of football, but in academic pursuits as well. Wait & see what the head hunter comes up with. Plus, how well is this website updated? It went a few weeks before being updated the last time, so I wonder who else has actually applied that we may not even be seeing. Additonally, having been involved in a number of searches on campus, often your best candidates apply late, right before the deadline. Time will tell.
