- Padua Franciscan High School (OH) inside linebacker Dan Molls (6-1, 215) committed to Ohio on Saturday. Molls becomes the second recruit to verbal to Ohio for the 2009 football recruiting class. After receiving offers from several schools including most of the MAC, Molls chose Ohio over Central Michigan. Rated as a Rivals.com and Scout.com two-star recuit, Molls had 151 tackles and 5 sacks last season and reportedly runs a 4.57 40-yard dash. Scout.com lists Molls as the 65th best linebacker in the 2009 class. TroopSports.com will have more with Molls early next week.

Damm those two star recruits are so hard to come by! lol
The fact that BG and Miami were in on this guy and the finalists were CMU and Ohio tells me that recruits don't really care about MAC football traditions.

I guess you could make a strong arguement for CMU being a traditional MAC power however during the entire Marshall era they were down big.

CMU's recruiting success is correlated with its current success not what the program did in the 90's or 80's.

In the mid 80's Miami and BG were far ahead of Ohio's football program. Ohio's press box was an 8' x 8' wooden. Miami and BG played in 30,000 seat stadiums while Peden was maybe 15,000.

Today Ohio has the better facility, big name coach, and better support. There is not one element of BG or Miami's program that is superior at this point.

Bowling Green has only 2 MAC Championships since 1985.

Miami has only 2 MAC Championships since 1977.

MAC tradition of Miami and BG is seriously overrated.

The guy had 7 MAC offers. That is pretty impressive for a recruit at the non-BCS level.

Ohio has the better facility...for the 80's. Stop by the Sebo Center the next time your in BG. Miami has alot better facilities too then currently at Ohio.

Big name coach...that is a MAC coach...just like all the others

Support...all equal here.

Good 4 Moll. He will get a good education ot Ohio or at any MAC school. There are a lot of 2 star football players throughout the MAC. I don't think this will make a large impact in the future of MAC football
Some services have Molls as WLB,others as a MLB.
MAC classes are filling up for LB's:
Austin Moore-Miami
TJ Fatinikum-BG
Paul Swan-BG
Adam Fenton-CMU
Tony Martin-BSU
Alex Andrus-BSU
Jacob Green-BSU
Justin Cruz-BSU
Fabrice Price-Kent

You are absolutely incorrect.

I will give BG credit with Sebo as a serious improvement. The stadium is vastly improved with Sebo and the other changes made.

MAC Stadiums by rank.

1.Temple (nfl)
2.Akron (new and fantastic)
3.Western Michigan (IPF and everything)
4.Ohio (huge tower and beautiful grounds)
5.Toledo (glass bowl tower)
6.Ball State (beautiful press tower and grounds)
7.Bowling Green (Sebo Center)
8.Northern Illinois (Yordon Center)
9.Eastern Michigan (huge)
10.Buffalo (relatively new)
11.Central Michigan (very solid)
12.Kent State (Party Decks!)
13.Miami

I would say Miami is the worst of all current MAC stadiums following the improvements at Kent and Akron.

Here is why I rate Miami's stadium so low:

1.The stadium has no weight center, no luxury suites, no indoor practice facility. There is no way you can rate it ahead of most of the MAC which has these elements as part of the stadium.

2.Exterior is far from fancy mixture of concrete and brick. The cradle of coaches plaza is alright but the exterior of the main grandstand does not match and looks dated.

3.Miami's press tower isn't a 8' by 8' wooden but its small and outdated looking. Compared with Ball State or even what EMU has its a clear notch below. Its light year's below Toledo or Ohio have.

4.Unbalanced home and away sides. The home side of Miami's stadium is 2.5 times larger taller than the away side. Then one of the endzone sections has seats at a much smaller size. There is a lack of symmetry across all seating at the stadium and I think that is a slight negative.

Contrast Miami's configuration with that of Bowling Green where all the seating is concentrated in two even sized decks. Then with the addition of Sebo it creates a nice horseshoe effect.
Toledo's new turf is looking nice.
KC,
Congratulations on the Dan Moll verbal. He is a young man we, and virtually everyone in the conference, would be happy to have.

I think your info on Yaeger stadium is outdated, however. The renovations to the stadium have increased the "away" side of the stadium to 40 rows eliminating the former unbalanced appearance. As to training facilities, the three year old Gross center overlooks the field and compares favorably with Ohio's facillities.

Thanks for the post and the views of the Stadium, MiamiJohn...we have two threads now on this subject. A minor point, for for the record the new away side has 45 rows and is curved to match the home side...the old away side only had 30 rows and looked "High schoolish" as we all know.

=>Well, Miami does have the 4 MAC East titles in last 5 years (2003, 2004, Co-2005, Co-2007)...and only 2 non-winning seasons since 1994...and the best weight room facilities in the MAC.

Having been to Peden stadium the last 3 times Miami played there, I have to say Yager has it beat. The seating is better. The tunnels underneath the stands have more room. More concessions. More aesthetics...

better stated is that DAN MOLLS picked Ohio to play football. I'm not sure that Dan Molls speaks for all "recruits".

Further, by your logic LB AUSTIN MOORE, TE BRIAN SLACK, and OL AARON PRICE do care about MAC football traditions as they both picked Miami over an offer from Ohio.

Further, by your logic, Miami recruit BJ STEVENS picked the MAC traditions over those found at NC State, WV, Rutgers, Iowa and Wisconsin while PAT HINKLE picked MAC traditions over those found at Wisconsin and JAMAL RAMSEY picked them over those found at Cincinnati, and DT ANDREW MULLER picked MAC traditions over those found at Duke

Frank has a better coaching record than Shane Montgomery and has a 2-1 head-to-head advantage.

Frank won more games in 2006 then what Shaner won in 2006 and 2007 combined.

03-idea

How about all those great coaches Miami has.......Tim Rose is the last one alive.

Ohio has LIVING coaching tradition. Jim Grobe was national coach of the year at Wake Forest. Troy Calhoun is leading the AFA.

Yager is high school quality.

It looked Middle Schoolish.

Now you've upgraded to the High School look.

Oh I am quite aware that we lose players each year to Miami.

We don't lose them for program/tradition reasons though.

1. Miami is closer to Cincinnati/Dayton and always will pull some good recruits from there.

2. Oxford is a lot nicer place to go to school than Athens.

3. Miami has a great reputation, especially in-state.

Real tradition is Notre Dame, Michigan, and Ohio State. Miami has been traditionally insignificant on the national scene. That Miami usually has a 7-5 MAC team is not a major deal on the recruiting trail.
One-on-One with Ohio Commit Dan Molls

Padua Franciscan inside linebacker Dan Molls (6-1, 212) committed to the ‘Cats this weekend. TroopSports.com caught up with the two-star linebacker about his recent decision.

TroopSports.com: Your choices came down to Ohio and Central Michigan. Obviously, CMU has had a lot of recent success in the MAC, but you clearly liked Athens enough to go with Ohio. What specifically made you decide on OU over CMU?

Molls: Ohio was just a place where I felt extremely comfortable at. You can't beat the campus. It is simply one of the best. The coaching staff also made a big impact. I immediately felt a part of the football family when I visited. Lastly and probably most important (are) the academic programs. I’m uncertain on what I plan to major in exactly, but Ohio had big selection in my areas of interest.

Here is my ranking of the stadiums

1. Akron- new stadium moves into the #1 position
2. Toledo- large press box with good capacity to host BCS competion
3. Miami- Scoreboard in brick is the best the MAC.
4. CMU- Pretty good stadium and scoreboard
5. Ohio- the playing surface, press box and brickwork. corner endzone seating takes us out of the top three
6. BGSU- very nice improvements
7. NIU- very similar to BGSU
8. Kent State- A good stadium and getting better with new upgrades....did I mention beer
9. WMU- very compact steating feeling like your on top of action
10. Ball State- like the brickwork outside
11. Buffalo-
12. EMU
* Temple rents an NFL stadium like NIU rented Solider Field, EMU, CMU, WMU rented Ford Field and Kent/Akron rented Browns stadium.
And who cares if the stadium is rented or owned? We have the #1 stadium in the MAC and one of the top stadiums in the country. I personally have been wanting a smaller (40-45 thousand) seat stadium on campus at TEMPLE, but I am not going to complain too much about playing in the NFL's top stadium. Not sure how you can not put the Linc on your list as #1.

Haven't been to the Link but I don't like the idea of playing in huge stadiums-we played Pitt in the NFL stadium there and it was a lousy atmosphere for college football- I think this thread is aimed more at campus sites. The Link is a great facility and certainly provides the option of drawing bigger teams for home games due to its size but I can't think it gives much in the way of atmosphere or home field advantage. Small crowds in big stadiums don't do that and MAC crowds rarely exceed half of the capacity of that stadium.

You won't hear even die hard Temple fans speaking reverently of the Link in twenty years as you do with BG people talking about Doyt Perry, UT folks waxing nostalgic about the Glass Bowl or AKC talking about OU's stadium.
