Plan on taking the Jambulance out to the scrimmage (Carter Field) tomorrow morning. Plan on being there around 9:00 AM or so.

Hope to see some of you out there.

Stop by and we'll show you the improvements we've gotten done in the off season (and some that are still in the works).
I'm tempted to come down there to see the scrimmage and Jambulance. I was planning on spending most of the day at the Dream Cruise today, but the person that promised some spots along Woodward never came through. It becomes nothing but a parking lot by noon - and that is 4 lanes going North and 4 lanes going South - so you end up parking in Royal Oak and taking a shuttle bus over. Not fun. Going down there now to see what it looks like this early. May see you guys later. You can only breath exhause fumes for so long...
Scrimmage was fun. Got there early and had fun catching up with many of you -- some for the very first time.

Coach Amstutz made it a point to stop by and shake hands with the crew gathered around the Jambulance. That was a nice gesture and appreciated.

I'll let others post their observations of the actual scrimmage. I thought the Rockets looked pretty good on both sides of the ball.

Another open scrimmage next Saturday from 9:30 - 11:30 AM I believe.
Personally, I think we have a pretty good stable of QB's. I'm not sure whether Opelt even took a snap, but the other 3 did a nice job. The 2 new guys, Pettee and Pasquale both did a nice job out there.

The RB's had some nice runs...Collins a couple, Williams a couple--which drew some applause from the fans. Thomas had a nice run. Also, a guy named Jake Walker ran the ball pretty well a few times, too.
My observations from today's scrimmage:
As Ranger stated Coach Amstutz made it a point to stop by and shake everyone's hands and thank us for our support, the old Stutz may be back.
Aaron Opelt didn't take a snap, parents said he has a sore arm from throwing so much. The three other quarterbacks looked pretty good with DJ Lenehan standing out above the rest. Good stable of running backs, all looked good but Morgan Williams looked really good with some nifty moves. Stephen Williams is a beast, caught a couple of touchdown passes, has NFL written all over him. Defense is much more aggressive, with everyone running to the ball, and laying down some hard hits.

As we were driving the Jambulance over to the Glass Bowl to check out the new turf we picked up a hitchhiker, defense end Derrick Summers hopped in and rode with us, seemed pretty impressed with the Jambulance. The new turf is going to look awesome with the alternating light and dark green turf every five yards.

Those were my observations, anyone else have anything to add?

Really! I love that faux grass cut pattern. If we got to have fake grass, it's a simple but classy touch.

BTW, I heard St Francis is supposed to play next Friday at the Glass Bowl against one of the Cleveland teams (St Eds?). The GB field isn't even close to being ready, is it?
I saw that they are playing at a local HS.

That game vs Olmstead Falls was originally scheduled to be at UT, but was later changed to Rogers. The first game SFS plays at UT will be Whitmer Sept. 19
The Carter Field scrimmage is oriented north-south. I suppose for liability purposes they won't let fans beyound a line of cones about 10 yards behind the north end zone.

They start each offensive series from about the 20-yard line on the south end of the field. The distance, coupled with being at ground-level, and also trying to see through the players and coaches on the sidelines, makes it difficult to see much of the action until they get closer to the north end zone.

Aside from Opelt not participating I don't recall seeing Nick Moore or Barry Church today either. Do any of you that were also there recall seeing them in the warmups or scrimmage?

It was a beautiful day, sunny and not too hot. The fair, dry weather is supposed to continue this week with temperatures getting warmer, mid-to-upper 80s from the low-to-mid 80s we've had the past couple of weeks.

Today was family day so lots of player's parents and siblings were in attendance, with a family picnic following the scrimmage.

The long wait for another season of Rocket Football is nearly over and I was encouraged by what I saw today.

Thats Olmsted Falls. Sorry, just a quirk I have since I live in North Olmsted and most people make the same mistake. 03-banghead
Sounds like I missed a good scrimmage... I was planning on coming, but was up late trying to finish my evening brewing session (made what will hopefully be a tasty Apricot Wheat). Oh well, I'll have to catch the one next Saturday... just have to hope I don't get too carried away at the German American Festival the night before! =)

Isn't that an NCAA infraction?
I don't know...why don't you write to the NCAA and ask them.

Just here to start trouble again?

The NCAA didn't seem to have a problem with Clarett driving around in a car leased by an OSU booster, do you really think they'll care if a football player was hitchhiking?
Actually he wasn't hitchhiking, I just added that to make the situation sound more interesting, he was walking and we simply asked him if he wanted a ride, he said heck yeah I always wanted to see what that (the Jambulance) looked like on the inside.
It is probably worse that you "offered" him a ride, as far as the NCAA is concerned!

Is it as serious an offense as givng a recruit a hot dog at a tailgate?02-13-banana
About the same, but BG did "self" report it and the situation was handled with the people involved, as I understand it. That is why I mentioned it, as I am not even sure it is a violation, but I thinks so, and it is much better to "self" report than to have an outside agency report it, from my understanding. Just thought you might want to know!05-nono

I suspect that it would take awhile for the NCAA compliance committee to address the issue.

a) They have other issues that might be more pressing (point shaving, hot dog giving)

b) It will take some time for them to get off the floor and heal their aching sides from laughing about someone self-reporting giving a college kid a ride for a few blocks.
plus, couldnt you just delete the post?
