John Wall will visit Memphis…
Posted by Dan Wolken
…per Gary Parrish of CBS Sports.com, who talked to Wall today at the Nike Global Challenge in Portland. Wall, a point guard who possesses many of the same abilities as Derrick Rose, is the No. 1 player in the country, according to Rivals.com.

When I wrote about Wall a couple weeks ago from Las Vegas, where he was playing in an AAU event, it didn’t look so good for Memphis because of some relationship issues with the Clifton brothers, who have been handling his recruitment. It looked even worse when Baylor hired Dwon Clifton to be on the coaching staff.

But as more light gets shed on the situation — and Parrish did just that in an extremely well-reported column Friday — the better it might be for everyone if Wall doesn’t commit to Baylor just yet.

Though the Cliftons are not exactly thrilled with the idea of Wall going to Memphis, from what I understand (I don’t think they’d admit that publicly, by the way), the player himself has been very intrigued by the Tigers because he idolizes Derrick Rose. And there are a number of people out there who believe Wall is a better basketball player than Rose at this point in his career, for whatever that’s worth. Will he have the intangibles; will he have the intelligence, the demeanor and the competitiveness Rose? Who knows, but Wall is bigger and faster and arguably more talented at this point.
Great news! 04-cheers
This is huge news. I hope he comes for midnight madness. He's ours if he ever sets foot in the Forum.

John Wall, come on down!!!

HUGE NEWS
Couldnt agree with you more D
Finally and I hope if he ever committs I can go up to Clifton and give him a nice welcome... :)
Woohoo! After all, he's the wonderWall.
Wall is a great player but I strongly disagree that he is even close to the level of Derrick Rose, we all saw what Rose did in the NCAA tournament , he was physically so strong ,so dominant and virtually toyed with every opponents counterpart, in my opinion he is going to be the best point guard in the NBA in just tow years.

That sounds like a very long time.

I think Wall can be as good, but Rose's attitude is what set him apart. I also highly doubt Wall is as strong as Rose was at this point, and Rose's ability to absorb contact and somehow find a way to finish was uncanny. Nonetheless, he is fast as lightning and has as much athletic potential as Rose does. He can already jump out of the freaking building.
Sounds like this is going to happen. Come on John Wall.

Wall is taller perhaps but not as thick as DRose. I really hope Wall is a Tiger. He just looks tailor made to run in this offense.
Rose is one in a million, Wall can be the next.
Trivia
when was the last time the same school had the number 1 draft pick two years in a row?

Dude, DR had played a season at the college level by that point. Put Derrick in that situation a year and a half earlier and you may well have the equal of John Wall. Who knows?

IF Wall comes here, Cal will mold him into an NBA ready player if Wall does the work necessary to get there. Today's John Wall will become "John Wall: Future NBA pick" 20 months from now if he gets with the program.
it speaks volumes that Wall idolizes Rose. Wall wants to become the player he sees that Rose is. that's WOW to me, so what else can be said?

W.O.W. = Wall's On the Way
This is Fantastic News! Cal is on the way to creating a Dynasty in Memphis. Come on Wall, Henry and Sidney join the Party.

No to add to the confusion Zag's is reporting this. Most goes along with what Wolken says but some doesn't quite jive.

Quote:I interviewed John Wall by phone today from the Nike Global Challenge in Portland, Ore., and he says he’s still open about colleges and is in no hurry to make a decision.

“I still have Baylor, Oklahoma State, North Carolina State, Memphis, Kentucky, Kansas and Oregon,” said the 6-foot-2, 188-pound Wall, the No. 1 recruit in the nation according to Rivals.

Southern California and Texas have also been on Wall’s list, but many observers assume he will end up at Baylor now that his summer ball coach, Dwon Clifton, has taken a job as the Director of Player Development under Baylor head coach Scott Drew.

Wall said he enjoys playing summer ball for Clifton, but would not necessarily pick Baylor just because Dwon was hired there.

As for when he might make a decision, he said he plans to attend the Boost Mobile Elite 24 event at Harlem’s Rucker Park Aug. 22 and then decide sometime before his high school season starts at Word of God Academy in Raleigh, N.C.

“I might not decide until the high school season starts,” he said.

Wall averaged 18 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds last season while leading Word of God to back-to-back 1-A state titles. Word of God finished 30-3 and ranked No. 19 in the USA Today final poll.

As for his experience at the Nike Global Challenge, Wall said he is enjoying it.

“I’m having a good day,” he said. “It’s good to play against other great players from around the country, and I’m just trying to help my team. And it’s good to play for the USA Camp.”

Other players of note in Portland include Abdul Gaddy, the subject of a recent self-reported recruiting violation at Memphis; Xavier Henry, who has said he will visit Kansas for “Late Night in the Phog”; and UConn commit Alex Oriakhi.
So he's deciding before the season starts maybe but he still plans on making a visit here before deciding. I suppose it doesn't matter much until November anyway.

Thick don't mean crap - Wall is the real deal hands down. As good as, if not better than, DRose.
