Jerry Meyer of Rivals has listed his top 5 scoring machines from class of 2010.

1) Jared Sullinger a PF committed to Ohio State
2) Brandon Knight a PG with Memphis on his list
3) Josh Selby a PG with Memphis on his list
4) Daniel Bejarano a SG from Phoenix
5) Joe Jackson – Jackson is electric with the ball. Blessed with superb body control, this wiry talent can start and stop on a dime and work his way into tight spots with the best of them. He has a knack for absorbing contact and finishing, and is at his best off the high ball screen. Go under the screen, and he is more than happy to let it fire. Go over the top, and he'll turn the corner or split the hedge.
1 We don't really set a lot of screens in our dribble drive O. Is that accurate?
2 So, can our coaches have any contact with class of 2010 pLayers at this time?
At 5'9" How many people is Joe Jackson going to shoot over at the college level. He better be working tirelessly on his PG Skills becuase that is where he has a future. Not many sub 6'0" shooting guards around anymore.

actually most sets start with a high screen to some degree

5'9"? He's not in Jr. High anymore. He isn't nor does he try to be a SG, strictly a PG that handles the ball. The #3 ranked PG at this time from his class. He can get to the basket at will. And he can shoot over most defenders.
Chris Jackson immediately comes to mind as a short guard who could get his shot off. Damon Stoudamire. But then as we showed against Texas, if you have tall perimeter defenders, it is more difficult for very good college players to cope.
Our offense will create spacing for Jackson to use his talents to get into gaps. If he's on the team, people will play us zone.
JJ's size, speed, hops and tenacity brought thoughts of a young Iverson to my mind. And he is closer to 6'0" than what the poster referenced at 5'9".
He's 6'0" and can slam it with authority.

Yeah, what wild bill said. Joe has insane hops. Not real worried about him getting shots off, especially with his quickness.
I have stood right next too him on more than one occassion. I am 5'8" and he isn't much taller than me at all... An inch or two maybe... He doesn't sniff 6'0".

He is an electric HS scorer. I just see it being an extremely hard transition. Instead of 6'0" folks guarding him on Jumpshots It will be 6'5" guys.... Size will be a issue....

Don't get me wrong, I hope that he is the exception to the rule. But those exceptions are few and far between....

Super Joe does remind me of Iverson, I'm not saying that he will be another Iverson. He will be a blur, and I would not want to be the guy guarding him. He is at least as tall as Andre Allen. Andre helped us out tremendously many times.
Joe Jackson will thrive in the attack offense.
Whats wrong with having a Mugsy Bogues or an Earl Boykins. If you can play at a top 5 level then why not play for the Tigers.
Like I said, The exception to the rule (Mugsy, Earl Boykins, Spud Webb, Keith Jennings, etc). For every one of them there are 100 other sub 6'0" that struggle to be scorer at the d-1 level.

I am a huge fan of Joe Jackson... But, I am realistic too.

Were any of those 100 ranked top 3 of their class?

Were either of those 4?

Realistically JJ is ranked top 3.

Additionally- Mugsy, Spud or Boykins weren't scorers. Bad comparisions.
Earl Boykins averaged 26.8pts per game his senior year in college... Is that not a scorer?

Yes in the Mid-American Conference for Eastern Michigan, I give you that. But he was never drafted and was never considered a top 3 PG. Nor was his game ever remotely similar to JJ's. They are two different players in every aspect(size, hops, credentials and potential).
Joe will never see 6'0". His motor separates him from his peers.

He has a scorers mentality, will have to make some adjustments on the collegiate level, no one outside of Memphis doubts he will be bigtime on the next level. Sometimes we over evaluate the local talent and tend to focus on their negatives rather than see the good things they do.

He's a tremendous defender and should do well on the next level.

It looks like he will be back with us (YOMCA) next summer.

Great news Keith. What other players do you expect(YOMCA)?
It's early. Alot of conversation is going on to put the best together from 14's to 17's. With Miller's group gone we should once again be able to put the better players together.
