I'm sure I'll get poped but that o.k., I wear it as a badge of honor. According to the UCLA scout board:

Apparently Texas and Memphis have started to recruit Honeycutt. On Dohn's blog he said Honeycutt told him UCLA, USC, Texas, and Memphis were his 4 favorites.

I don't really see how Texas or Memphis would have space for him. Memphis already has Nolan Dennis at sg and is doing well with Xavier Henry. Texas is apparently the favorite for Bradley and Hamilton.

So if immediate playing time is an issue I think SC and UCLA would have much more room available at the SF spot.

The one thing I didn't like to hear is that Honeycutt said geography was only a factor for his mom but not for him- let's hope he listens to his mama...

Remind me again please, who is Honeycutt and do we want him?

According to this he's not ranked. Is this because of his age? I know we wouldn't offer a spot to an unranked guy.
Looks like he had a hell of a couple of games out in Vegas though.

Tyler Honeycutt
Here is a little blurb from The Sporting News after the Las Vegas tourney:
Quote:Tyler Honeycutt, SF, Sylmar, Calif. So nobody is ever found on the recruiting circuit? The college coaches are only out there baby-sitting and cheerleading? Well, then -- how does one explain Honeycutt?

In a junior season at Sylmar High that Honeycutt describes as "passive," during which he "passed the ball too much" and averaged only 11.8 points, he didn't receive a single phone call or scholarship offer from a college coach. Now, having grown to 6-9 and adopted a more aggressive approach to offense with the Los Angeles-based Pump N' Run Elite, he's one of the hottest recruits along the Pacific Coast.

Honeycutt has the frame and fluid movement that catch a scout's attention immediately upon walking into a gym. He looks like a player, though recent basketball history featured several wings of his skill set and body type (Gonzaga's Micah Downs, UConn's Stanley Robinson, USC's Davon Jefferson) who lacked the aggressiveness to be consistently great.
Tyler Honeycutt, 6-7 SF from Sylmar CA. Scout's #59 overall.

Well, according to his mom (from a scout article) "We are just taking our time and weighing our options at this point. Possibly between now and November, but not sure yet. Ultimately the final decision is Tyler's."

I just watched some video on this kid.... I really like what I see :-)
The general impression has been UCLA leads for him but it's not really clear if that's still the case.

Texas just got Sean Williams but most see Honeycutt ahead of him. Memphis as you said is loaded at that spot. UCLA apparently now has Honeycutt rated ahead of hollis Thompson(who they coveted before he verballed to Georgetown but rumor is he might renege on G-Town).

One of Honeycutt's HS coaches played for Tim floyd at Iowa State(Sean Bankhead) so USC has an in on him too.

Right now he's UCLA's top target at the position since I don't think anybody thinks UCLA is a serious player for Xavier Henry.
Good report Russ. Thanks for the run down.

Just a slight correction. Texas got Shawn Williams

Seems like there is a Shawn/Sean/Shawne Williams or two every year.

Wish that they could be consistent on the names.
Just read a statement that indicated that Honeycutt has really come around this spring and summer and is now being considered by some elite schools. Looks like UCLA and USC want this guy - he took a visit to UCLA last week - and if UCLA wants him that's a good indication he can play. I'd ignore Rivals probably dated rating.

…What is he looking for in a school:

"Someone who wins. Someone who competes good,'' Honeycutt said. "A good school that I could go to. Good coaching. I've got to like the coaches if I'm going to go play for them."

Here is what he said on his four favorite schools:

USC: "It's a good school. They're always going to battle in the Pac-10, and battle UCLA."

UCLA: "They make it far (in the NCAAs). They have good tradition"

Texas: "I like how they run, how they run and gun."

Memphis: "Same thing as (Texas)."
