Just throwing it out there. If NBC ever decides to not renew their TV contract, the Fighting Irish will be looking at the Big Ten or Big East. However, don't rule out the MAC as a first stop.
What would that do to the divisions? Any one? Any one?
Good question, young Liam. I was going to leave realignment to the experts. Kit Cat? OUBobcatJohn?
If they ever thought about it, they'd probably use it as a landing spot for all non-revenue sports. Back when both football and basketball were independent, they had all other sports compete in the Midwestern City Conference/Midwestern Collegiate Conference, now known as the Horizon League.

It will never happen. Has Notre Dame even played a MAC team? NO!! My guess is they would even turn down a Motor City Bowl bid because they would have to play a MAC school.

I believe ND has played Toledo in basketball before.

ND's contract is going to at least 2025 from what I understand.
Notre Dame has played Ohio in the NCAA tournament. In fact Austin Carr made the single game scoring record in an NCAA tournament game against Ohio.
Notre Dame, Depaul, Marquette, St Louis, Xavier, Dayton, Butler, Creighton, Loyola-Chicago and Valporiso would make a nice midwest conference. A-10, BE and Horixon lose three teams and the MVC 1 team.

The Big East would add Memphis and stop at 14.

A-10 would add add Holy Cross

Horizon would add IPFW and Oakland

If I remember correctly, if there was a three-point line in that game, he would've scored 78 points.

ND played NIU in basketball just last year.
I think some folks are missing the main point of this post - Linky for insight

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
This issue was clearly addressed in the realignment thread- Notre Dame would join Temple in the Private divison thus, cruelly, giving Temple the chance at winning the Division AND playing in the championship game and at the same time taking that option away because ND would not lose to Temple ( at least not very often) and with crossovers not counting, Notre Dame becomes the de facto rep from the private division every year.

Of course UT and Kent would fight ND's entry due to the proliferation of unacceptable shades of Blue and Gold so I don't see this happening.

ND only played Toledo to my knowledge in the NCAAs- game was the night of my bachelor party.
I think the MAC could get ND to join if we waived enough $$$...we might have to sell naming rights to everything....to people like Disney Would it be so terrible to see BAll State and CMU locked in a struggle for "Hannah Montana" division supremacy while BGSU and Miami slug it out for the "That's so Raven" crown?
Didn't Miami play ND in football?

Miami was scheduled to play ND, but it ended up being the first game after their stadium renovation. NBC convinced them to buy out the contract for a bigger name team - although I don't remember who it was.

Miami ended up with a 3 game basketball series instead, including a home game. Miami proceeded to win 2 of 3 including an upset when ND was ranked #10, I believe. (If not 10, it was definitely top 20).

I meant in football. ND has generously allowed MAC schools to come to South Bend for basketball and on occasion will come to a MAC school.
03-shhhh Rumor has it, if the MAC is spurned by the Irish they will try to lure the Detroit Lions. What a great catch that would be, large motropolitan city, great stadium (Domed 02-13-banana), fan based used to midmajor 03-lmfao football and access to national coverage. Think of the exposure we'd get just trying to pull this off 04-jawdrop
