Rumor has it that Devoe Torrence has reported for the Zips camp to start tomorrow. Now that he has been cleared of charges of having sex with an underage girl, it appears he is free to move on to college. He was a tOSU signee before his troubles.

The GOOD Adding talent Always has an upside 04-cheers

The BAD By not being part of the D1 upper crust 03-snooty smaller programs are often resigned to taking risks to build their program, a risk crusty schools sometimes take to win nat. championships, so the return is never equal to the assumed risk :muttering:

The UGLY Every year i return to campus the girls look younger and hotter! 03-phew 05-nono
Having hotter women is... bad?

If the guy's been cleared of charges, they're not really taking a chance, are they? Or am I missing something with this story?

I'm still trying to figure this out, myself. He is a risk because he brings a whole bunch of legal baggage with him, and has the potential to create a media circus.

Akron's coaching staff is desperate. A losing season and we'll likely have a new coach to go along with our new stadium, so i can see them willing to take on players they normally wouldn't in order to generate some wins.

Another question is what position he'll play. Our deepest position is at RB, which is what he wanted to be at OSU. He is listed as an athlete, and two positions where he might find playing time are at WR and DB.
He was acquitted and is in the clear. BCS schools backed off because of the suspiciousness of this whole ordeal. Something like 4 people were originally charged w/ rape. I guess that the BCS schools were also worried about his academics as well as this juvenile court case. The academics may have just been as a result of the ongoings of the case.

Akron is getting a hell of a player in Torrence. I can see him excelling for them at DB, WR or RB.

Yeah but a 6th grader?
I know a 17 year old can fool some people but somebody 6 years out of kindergarden?04-jawdrop
If he is eligible and has a full allotment of practices, Torrence will be playing running back at Akron. This is the type of talent Akron clears a spot at the top of the depth chart for.
I can't help but to be suspicious of KSU fans defending AU picking up this guy. What are you guys planning? Are you going to pelt their team with Pampers when they come to Kent? Or dress a blow-up doll in Wonder Woman Underoos? I know you're up to something.

They are probably trying to preemptively protect themselves from backlash should Kent decide to bring in hoops recruit Tyree Evans, a kid with such a tarnished record that Maryland, Cincinnati, and Kansas State all refused to touch him.

Our deepest position is at RB. If he wants to make the biggest impact for the team, he will likely play one of the hybrid 3-3-5 positions (Sam, Rover, or Bandit; don't ask me what they do) on defense.
Isn't this the second RB Akron has picked up from OSU? I seem to remember a RB that did NOT qualify academically @ OSU (thats difficult to do @ OSU) and then he was @ Akron. Is it Keenedy?

It was Dennis Kennedy. He's cleaned up his academics since coming here, and is now one of two senior RBs on the team (the other being Miami(FL) transfer Andrew Johnson).

Yeah, but they all looked. Maryland's coach still wants him. And, as long as the standard is NOW set to acquitted by our neighbors to the West, guess we just have to keep up with the Zippies.

Personally, I would have not signed Tyree. Not official yet, but rumor is Tyree is a Flash next season. If he shows, I just hope he's grown up, has learned something and behaves himself. And what they heck, while he's here, that he's the talent people claim him to be.

Forgive the rest of the conference if we don't join the Akron-Kent race to the bottom of the ethical barrel.
True, but we did take Michael Hinton and longer ago LaDrell Whitehead in hoops. Neither really worked out. Whitehead kept his act together while in Athens, but got nailed by feds after college. And Hinton, the Va Tech DB, just had a problem with those pesky, recurring "violations of team rules." And ask Miami how the Zach Marshall (Maryland) transfer turned out. To me, a lot of times, these retreads who had attitude/legal problems don't turn out, although one that stands out recently as a positive is Abe Elam.

I don't think we have any moral high ground here. And, again, the person in question was cleared of the charges.
