I just got back from seeing it for the second time. Great film!!!

What has everyone else thought so far? Do you have any ideas as to how they will continue the franchise?
Best movie in years.
Can ya'll keep a secret?

I'm Batman
It was a really good movie. It pays to have excellent actors in the key roles. Aaron Eckhart was great as Harvey Dent and Heather Ledger's Joker was amazing.

Nolan and Bale ought to have at least one more movie in them together. Nolan definitely is the driving force with this series- he takes the movies in really interesting directions.
Very good film. It's the best batman film ever. My question is, how are they going to top it in the next one? It's nice to have a movie that focuses more on a good story than pretty special effects and wow factor. I would only change a few things. First, the fight scenes are very dark, somewhat up close and difficult to follow what's happening. The same thing plagued Batman Begins, but the fights are done somewhat better. 2nd, Bales grunting noise that he makes when he's talking as Batman is kind of irritating, it just doesn't seem natural.

I love how they filmed the movie in Chicago. I kept having a "is this Gotham City or Chicago" feel throughout the film.

Anyone know who the next bad guy will be?
there may not be a next movie.

the joker and chicago were the two stars of the movie.

goin to see it again in batavia in an hour. cant wait
amazing movie i cant wait to see it again
There's enough development left for the Nolan/Bale Batman to think there's another film in them. In terms of another villain- it felt like the Joker storyline was meant to spread over two films. But they just can't go back that way- not after how thoroughly Ledger owned that role. It can't be a thoroughly over the top, cartoonish character like the Penguin, not in Nolan's Gotham City. But a city with "the Bat-man" and the Joker is one open to open of costumed oddballs. I hope they go deeper into the Batman canon than the familiar figures.
Excellent movie, i saw it friday afternoon. I wanted to go to a midnight showing but i couldn't. Heath Ledger did an amazing job with joker and i'm a big fan of Christian Bale. I didn't really care for the woman who played Rachel (Batman's love interest).

'Dark Knight' sets weekend record with $155.34M

Quote:LOS ANGELES (AP) Batman has sent Spidey packing as king of Hollywood's box-office superheroes.

"The Dark Knight" took in a record $155.34 million in its first weekend, topping the previous best of $151.1 million for "Spider-Man 3" in May 2007 and pacing Hollywood to its biggest weekend ever, according to studio estimates Sunday.

"We knew it would be big, but we never expected to dominate the marketplace like we did," said Dan Fellman, head of distribution for Warner Bros., which released "The Dark Knight." The movie should shoot past the $200 million mark by the end of the week, he said.
The obvious answer for the next villain would be The Riddler...but how about...

The Mad Hatter
Batman #49 (October-November 1948)

Jervis Tetch, formerly a research scientist, is completely smitten with the works of Lewis Carroll. He is an insane neuroscientist and developed hardware that can control the brain and induce hypnotic states, and often uses hats or other headgear for mind control. (There was also, briefly, a second Mad Hatter who liked to commit crimes with hat-related themes, but he has not been seen in two decades, having only one appearance after nearly being killed by the original.)

I agree. I thought Batman could have used a glass of water. What if Batman were to fight Cookie Monster? I noticed that there was a Mc Cormick Center in Hong Kong too. Hmmm.

The Riddler was always my favorite villain and Frank Gorshin was the best riddler. However, I think the Riddler would be a little too much like the Joker, and the third movie would need a bad guy with a different personality. The Penguin would fit, as he could try to take over Gotham through the political machine. Perfect for Chicago too. I would cast Joe Pantoliano as the Penguin.

I think you need to have a Robin to have a Riddler, because Batman and Robin used to answer the riddles together. Robin would answer the riddle, and Batman would interpret it.

For example:

Riddle: Why do firemen wear red suspenders?

Robin: To hold their pants up.

Batman: Precisely, Boy Wonder. That means there is going to be a hold up at the largest clothing store in Gotham City! To the Batmobile!
Haven't been to see a movie since the last Lord of the Rings (5 years ago), but I am going to see this movie.

I am dead set against them having Robin in the next film. No thanks. As for the next villian, a few others come to mind. Bane, Mr. Freeze. The Ventrilloquist or Harley Quinn might make for an interesting twist, and they could always bring in the dark and twisted Batman wannabe Nightwing. Of course there's a few classics left like Penguin, Catwoman, Riddler and Poison Ivy. I doubt Man-Bat or Clayface would work well with the style that the filmakers have been going with because they're kind of cartoony.
they've said they won't do penguin b/c the Nolan didn't think he could make him not cartoonish and he didn't fit his interpretation of the film, may have said the same about the riddler. With the Joker out it kind of screwed up their plot, and they definitely can't have someone else play the role so it will be tough, but they've obviously set it up for a sequel with the other character they introduced.
Tommy Lee Jones played 2 Face extremely well earlier in the franchise, he'd be a great pick in another villan role.

Wrong on both counts - he was not good as Two-Face and he would not be a great pick in another villan role.

How many really old villans did Batman ever fight? Not many. Know why? Because they are really old.
There's always the option of inventing a new cool villian for the movies. The hardcore comic book fans might not appreciate it too much, but to your average joe who doesn't know jack about Batman besides that he has a really cool car and neat toys, it might work out really well.

After just seeing it for the first time, I agree with you that the Joker character seems like it will be spread over 2 films. We can sit here and say that the Joker won't go on, but there are just as many good actors out there that could pick up the role and do a similar job.

I think we'll see more of the Joker.
Batman had to face copycats in this movie so I guess a copycat Joker or Jokers isn't implausible. The Joker could become an anarchist/underworld symbol in his own right, as Bruce Wayne meant Batman to by a symbol. And if they aren't as good as Ledger's Joker- that would be excusable because they would be different characters altogether. What I don't think we'll see is an attempt at the same Joker.
