I was working as a sales rep back about 1979 and was on an elevator in Methodist Hospital Houston, Tx. The elevator stopped then opened on a floor and a young resident instructed everyone that was on that elevator (and it was full) to exit the elevator so that Dr. DeBakey could get on and ride it. We all stood there and watched as Dr. DeBakey and about four residents got on the elevator and went about their business. It was remarkable to be in his presence and was unusual to be required to exit the elevator so that he could ride on it. He apparently didn't ride elevators with the common folks. That is my one Michael DeBakey story.
