Euclid basketball player Harris commits orally to Eastern Michigan
Thursday, July 10, 2008
Jamell Harris, preparing for his senior year at Euclid, has made an oral commitment to play Division I college basketball at Eastern Michigan University.

Harris, a 6-8 center/forward, played extensive minutes as a reserve on Euclid's senior-dominated team last season. He impressed recruiters with his defense and rebounding and has further developed his offensive game in the off-season.

"[Eastern Michigan coach Charles Ramsey] said he thinks I can play some as a freshman," Harris said. "He thinks I have some ability to face up and score, that I have good movement with my feet on the wing and that I can be a shot-blocker."
Sounds like a winner.

The basketball coach at Euclid High School has been charged with disorderly conduct and accused of interfering with the arrest of one of his players, police said.

Euclid school officials placed coach Sean O'Toole on administrative leave, Superintendent Joffrey Jones said.

"He's a great employee who we honor and respect,'' Jones said.

Police said O'Toole became upset Saturday night over the arrest of one of his players who was arguing with the boy's mother. The argument came at the school during a boys' tournament game between Mentor and Glenville high schools.

O'Toole was peppered sprayed and a taser was used on him by police during the incident, according to a police report.

Hoopscooponline.com has him as the #40 best player in the class of '09.

It sounds like there are a lot of D-I basketball and football players that come out of Euclid High.

None of this really means anything (although the story about the coach is funny), i'm just excited that there is any basketball news.
My impression is that Harris is a project but if he has a good attitude and works hard but lets see what happens his senior year. He isn't in the Rivals or Scout recruiting bases but is in ESPN Ohio and rated a 40 meaning borderline Div I.
Jamil Harris, 6’8, PF, Euclid, 2009- The recent Eastern Michigan verbal had his finest showing in my time observing him over the last three years, finally putting his immense package of size, skills, and athleticism together. Usually playing with his back to the basket, he played facing the cup the entire time at the showcase and looked great in doing so. Harris was outstanding shooting face-up jumpers (even drilling a couple of three pointers), took slower big men off of the dribble from the wing, and had a couple of emphatic dunks. He wasn’t as good of a rebounder as you would’ve hoped for a player his size, but the Euclid senior did block a fair number of shots. If Jamil continues to play like this more consistently, Eastern Michigan will have gotten themselves quite the player.
