DeMatha QB Makes Pick
DeMatha quarterback Tom Chroniger has committed to play for Eastern Michigan. Chroniger enjoyed a solid first season as a starter last year and is poised to lead the Stags this season."

I can read Dennis' mind: 03-idea

"Steve, might you be able to watch him play a game or two?"

My thoughts:

"Yes, Dennis, DeMatha plays in the WCAC and a couple teams are near me in No. Viriginia."

Will search for more. He is our first verbal for 2009 and our player out of the Washington DC area.
Steve, since you found the QB of the future, no reason why you shouldn't report on his progress on behalf of EMU. It will be like old times when you were the recruiiting guru for EMU major sports.
P.S. We signed a lineman from D.C. in last years class, do they play a brand of good FB in the area? Any idea how it compares to Michigan preps? Wonder who our D.C. contact is on Genyck's staff? Going forward he should probably work with you scouting the area. Happy Recruiting!
they play excellent FB and hoops in the WCAC conference but that doesn't tell us how good a particular recruit is.
Dennis,

Our first recruit was Korey Neal an incoming freshman. I believe our connection out east is an assistant coach (Jim O'Neil?) who was an assistant at Towson State. I've noticed an uptick in recruiting ie Virginia prep schools, PA and Maryland since his arrival.
now we need to know if we get D.C. area recruits or D.C. area recruits who can play good MAC-caliber FB.

A recruit is like a stockbroker saying this stock will do well.

Maybe yes, maybe no.

Some MAC schools have been recruiting in D.C. area for years so it doesn't surprise me that EMU would try to get there too with a coach with connections.
Wow...DeMatha is known more for basketball. This is a good find.

True they've been a real hoop powerhouse, but they have been NATIONALLY ranked in FB 5 times within the last 10 years.

I think I read that last year they had 11 D-1 FB recruits.

That's why one of their games will be on national TV.
P.S. NOW EMU has to start playing some good FB when they come east - this year to Maryland.

Won't impress any kids if they lose 42 - 10.
Looks like we'll be "stocked" at QB for the next few years. McMahon at this point in time looks like the heir apparent to Schmitt when he graduates but you've got Williams, J Brown who had a great senior high school year coming in this year and the Indiana kid Beierwalter also an incoming frosh with impressive total offense stats.

Think you got it right, Cowboy.

McMahon looks to be the heir apparent and others are like lottery tickets - hope one pays off.

Genyk is playing the numbers game, "You can not have too much pitching". Oops wrong sport - "there is safety in numbers at QB."
New QB is a lefthander like Bohnet, likes to run. Anyone have any Junior Year stats on this guy? I expect Steve will be following his career diligently once FB season is here.
Scouting report from ESPN:

Evaluation
Chroniger is a scrappy, left-handed gunslinger that is a fiery competitor. He is poised, athletic and can make things happen from the pocket or on the move. He has above average size and a thick build. He is pretty fundamentally sound and shows really good pocket movement and presence to keep his eyes downfield and create some throwing lanes with his feet. Understands the offense, spreads the ball around and can be effective when takes what the defense gives him. Is accurate when sets feet, puts good touch on passes and can lead receivers when throwing underneath. Shows a live, good arm, not great and is at his best working the short and intermediate areas of the field. Has more zip outside the numbers than you might think. He is capable of making some deep ball throws when on time. Is a very good ball handler on play fakes, can freeze defenders and drop the ball between linebackers and safeties. As an athlete, he is capable of making some big plays with his legs and needs to be defended when on the perimeter. As with many lefties, Chroniger tends to wind up and will drop the ball down low prior to delivery. Must do a better job of ball protection in the pocket by keeping both hands on the ball when he is being rushed and trying to create something. Lacks a great downfield arm and deep ball will sail on him if he is late and trying to generate power. Overall, Chroniger is an under-the-radar guy that should see most of his recruitment come during his senior campaign. He had great receivers last year and will have a new fleet to work with now so it will be interesting to see how productive he remains.
