As a new poster to this Message Board I just wanted to throw out a few questions that need answering regarding the UT Men's Basketball Team heading into the '08-'09 Season.

1. Will Justin Anyijong put on some upper body weight/strength so that he can become a major low post threat?

2. Who are going to be the consistent three point shooting threats that we seriously lacked last year, i.e. Albrecht, Kent, Byrd, etc.?

3. Will Johnathon Amos and Ridley Johnson pick up their offense games in their senior seasons so as to take some of the offense load off Tyronne Kent?

4. Who is going to take over the interior scoring and rebounding responsibilities with the graduation of J. Young, i.e. Terrance Tubbs, Mohamed Lo, J. Anyijong, etc.?

5. Will newcomers Ed Tucker and Larry Bastfield provide good playmaking and leadership skills at the point guard position that we sorely lacked last season?

6. How fast will the upperclassmen and freshmen mesh on and off the court?

The answers to these questions will have a large impact on whether or not the Rockets succeed this upcoming season.
Welcome.

Some of your questions may be answered in a post on Mark Myer's ToledoRockets.com. He's got a story on there about the men's team opening summer workouts, and his site has a nice write-up on the women's team opening up as well, written by Fred (Efjay on most of the boards).

if this doesn't take you directly to the stories, go to home page and just click the stories to read.

1. i will get stuck in an elevator with salma hayek before anyijong gains some upper body weight. he is a beanpole. get used to it. however, he's a much better player than he showed last season. expect him to play a lot and do a lot around the rim for us on both ends this yr.

2. we don't have a great outside shooting team. kent will spot up more, bastfield has a nice j, but may not be comfortable shooting a lot as a freshman. albrecht sounds like he'll knock some down but he's definately a backup this yr. ridley could go either way. he's a guy who could give us 12 pg and solid shooting or be a role player off the bench. we do have some guys with good midrange games in amos, tucker.

3. amos is a mac and def poy candidate. if he maintains his good health he'll surprise folks this yr. he and stan got along but stan had trouble getting amos to lock in consistently. with this being his sr yr and coach cross taking a new approach i see amos cause problems for folks all over the court.

4. well, other than jerrah we didn't have much. the good news is we have 4 legit big guys to play this yr. the bad news is they have about 4 buckets and 25 rebounds between them at this level. watch out for salter though, neat recruit. if cross plays salter and anyijong together you got a lot of length to cover the rim and get on the glass. plus we have some excellent rebounding big guards.

5. let's hope so. tucker should be solid guy here. been around, pyhsically strong, able to break you down a bit and make some plays from the point. he'll help although i can't say if he'll be a good pg this season. bastfield is a good talent and serious ball player, expect good things of him, but again not sure if he's talented enough to come in and be a starter and leader right away.

6. no clue how the personable big city sr swingmen will mesh with a more eclectic mix of young players, but stan usually had a real good atmosphere among players. he didn't let a lot of rivalry stuff come up and he created a relaxed and respectful environment. cross looks like he might push guys a bit more but i think our leaders can handle that and will respond well and motivate the youngsters
