UAB won 5-3 in Birmingham back in March.

Troy puts their radio broadcasts on their website for free.

It was hilarious listening to their announcers. They were bragging in the top of the sixth inning about all of the student-athletes from other teams out there, supporting the baseball team, when Troy was winning, 7-6.

The Blazers tied it in the sixth, scored one in the seventh, and McCorkle stole home in the eighth to take a 9-7 lead.

In the top of the ninth, the color guy said, "Most of the students who were here earlier have taken it to the house." So much for supporting your fellow Trojans!

UAB added their 10th run in the ninth, the second run scored off of former Blazer Tony Falls. Troy scored one in the bottom of the ninth but left the bases loaded.

A stellar day for Troy pitching ... 10 walks, six wild pitches, and eight stolen bases allowed.

In the post-game show, their head coach said, "You can't give a decent team that many chances." Decent team? This decent team beat your team twice this year.

Ryan Huffman got the win for UAB in relief, and Eric Roberts had the save.

Blazer CF Clint Toomey was 3-3 and on base all six times he went to the plate. UAB scored at least one run in each of the last five innings.

UAB is now 26-15 overall (10-8 in C-USA) with a weekend series at home against Charlotte this weekend.
Pretty dang good team this year. Let's hope they dont have a late season collapse. What's the best year in UAB baseball history (as far as record)?
That's a good question 85. If my memory serves me correctly (and it may not) I believe that the baseball teams best year was in 1989 when the team made the NCAA tourney. There might have been one more tourney appearance since then. Memphis Blazer.... where are you with the stats????
Sorry, I don't do baseball. 03-confused
I don't have the records right here in front of me, but that NCAA regional team actually did not have a particularly good record. They got hot at the right time to win the Sun Belt auto bid.

UAB's best teams, record-wise, happened in the early 1990s as a member of the Great Midwest. UAB was the best team in that league, winning more than 40 games, I think, in three straight years. But GMW did not have an auto bid for baseball and UAB did not get picked for the regionals. Pete Rancont was the coach, and E.J. Brophy (now an assistant AD) was among the Blazers' good players during that time.

Harry the Hat had a couple of teams in the mid 1980s that won 40 games, too. Off the top of my head, 1984 seems to come to mind as a particularly good year, but I will have to check it.

LJ Blazerfan probably will know more than I.

Inexcusable.
The NCAA regional team was in 1991. The final record was 29-30, but the team went 4-1, coming out of the loser's bracket, to win the Sun Belt Tournament and earn the league's automatic berth. In the NCAA regional, they lost their opening game in Austin to Texas, beat Rutgers, and lost a close one to Oklahoma State that would have put them in the regional finals against Texas again.

In 1992, the team went 43-18, including 17-1 in the regular season in the Great Midwest Conference. They won the conference tournament (hosted at UAB), but the GMC did not have an automatic bid since it was the league's first year of existence - and the Blazers did not receive an at-large bid.

UAB went 35-23 (12-4 GMC) in 1993, losing in the finals of the conference tournament to Memphis.

In 1994, the Blazers went 32-23 (16-6 GMC) and won the conference tournament played in Cincinnati, but the league still did not have an automatic berth. Memphis, the regular-season champion that year, had over 40 wins (as I recall) and did not get an at-large bid.

There was one more season of GMC in 1995, but the Blazers finished 34-22 overall (13-9 GMC) and did not reach the finals of the conference tournament.

The Great Midwest Conference was basically a two-team league in baseball with UAB and Memphis.

Conference USA, on the other hand, in recent years has been among the top five toughest conferences in the country (based on national rankings). With the addition of Rice and Central Florida next year, that ranking could move into the top three or four.

As far as records during Harry Walker's tenure as head coach, his best season was 40-17 in 1981; the team was 12-0 in the Sun Belt North Division.
The 81 team had Brian Mackin (Assistant AD and E.J.'s boss) at 1st base. They also had Brian's best friend at the time, Jeff Young, whose dad was Jerry Young, as in Young field. I had a class with both Brian and Jeff that year.
There is a golf tournament coming up for Harry "The Hat" Walker.
I believe they have that golf tournament every year to raise money for the scholarship fund.
