Quote:Every football school has a Face of the Program, that iconic image you think of when talking football on campus. Here's your chance to help define who or what that is. Is it that fabled coach? A legendary player? A memorable play? A unique mascot? SportsNation is taking all suggestions as you help decide the Face of the Program.
Joe Novak celebrating the Silicone Valley Bowl seemed to work well. Or the Maryland game.

PJ Fleck diving TD against Maryland is a great image too.
Guys, this is easy for you.

Post Maryland game celebration by Novak sez it all.
His face that moment IS the face of modern era NIU football.
Garrett Wolf sprinting with the ball tucked under his arm while wearing his visor helmet.

Face of NIU Football is.........

Joe Novak!
Novak is the right choice for now...but depending on what Turner and Wolfe do in the NFL that could change.
For the major college era (1969-now) it is, without a doubt, Joe Novak. The small college era, it would be George Bork. He got NIU its first article in Sports Illustrated and he is in the College Football Hall of Fame.

I probably would have went with Wolfe and his visor sprinting down the sidelines vs. Michigan. Can't complain about Novak, though.

Agreed, but only to a point. You can make the argument that Novak helped shape both Turner and Wolfe, helping them become the great players that they are. Coach Novak's stressing the use of running backs in his offensive scheme and demanding high quality players and a strong work ethic helped to mold Turner and Wolfe.

You are very right. The problem is that although we know that, the face of the program is what non-fans see; which would be Wolfe or Turner if either one turn out to be huge NFL stars.
Wouldn't the side profile of the dog's head be the face of the program?
