OK. Player profile #1.
Meet Cody Gibson, our keeper of the future.
A six footer, the kid comes from one of the best club teams in the nation, the Houston Texans.
Hopefully, this kid will have a great career here and more Texas kids will look our way. Texas, believe it or not, is one of the top soccer states in America. I thought everybody played football in Texas, until I started going to Texas for tournaments.
This kid's club team had one player jump straight to MLS this year. 2nd pick overall. Another kid made our U-17 national team last year.
Cody has a tremendous amount of experience in huge national showcase games against the top twenty teams in the nation.
Club team won the south Texas state championship more than once, which is very difficult.
The Texans went deep at Regionals, which is the national championship tournament.
I think the kid is a self motivator. He has to be, because his 10 out in front were so good that the only touches he got were from his teammates playing the ball back to him to stretch a defense. But, he played for a good coach, who created adversity for him and the team.
Texas keepers use elbows, fists, and knees very well because the competition is so good, so he will punish strikers who come in to his space.
I saw him twice.
He will have a keeper coach that will throw him for a loop, if there isn't a change before the fall.
But he has been under a lot of pressure for a long time. Texas soccer is ruthless. Best player plays.
Gibson played here in a 2006 tournament. Last year's freshman GK has been removed from the 2007 roster. But, I think Richie signed him to appease rumors that he doesn't want Memphis players.
I think the Texas kid can run a team on the field.
I don't include high school stats because, at least around here, high school soccer sucks.
It is just bad, bad, soccer. We are the only country in the world who takes a break from club training. 25 years from now, high school soccer may exist, but no decent player in the larger cities will play. Maybe sooner. Already started for a select few in Memphis.
More later, Tiger soccer fans.

Thanks for following up.
Six feet is kind of short for a premier keeper.
