Channel 5 just said the guy behind the theme park idea for the Pyramid pulled his proposal off the table and is moving on.
I don't blame him.
That sucks.
:(
Well when you really have no plan do you really have anything to pull off the table? lol
That guy was full of shat.

Even if Ericson didn't have a plan, the idea of turning the Pyramid into some type of tourist attraction is far and away better than turning it into a giant Bass Pro Shop.

There was a plan but his financing was all smoke and mirrors. He would not come forward with a concrete financial plan. The plan was viewed as a joke by those on the city council.
While I agree that a Bass Pro isn't the most glamorous use for the pyramid, it is far better than a theme park. That theme park would have gone the way of Peabody Place in about 5 years. (Go visit Peabody Place if you don't know what I'm talking about) A Bass Pro will make money for the city.

you ever been to a real Bass Pro Shop? I think they are one and the same. They are a tourist attraction.
Both are and were pretty hollow deals.
Being a former Memphian I have to ask why do people think that the average Redneck who frequents Bass Pro Shop's would want to go downtown to shop for their huntin and fishun gear. Wouldn't they (Bass Pro)want it in Southaven,Frayser,Millington, or Bartlett where their market would be. Can't they figure out the golden rule of marketing....location,location,location?

Agreed. If it were the only Bass Pro in the mid-South, it would be an attraction. Even if they go all out and make it a flagship store, it won't be enough to drive traffic and sales after the first six months. What do they do to make it more attractive? Once a month fishing tournaments "out back" on the Mississippi? A billion gallon aquarium full of bass and catfish?
Well, there are alot of hunters and fishermen crossing that bridge downtown.....
Maybe he will buy land in Tunica and build it where the money is!! F *********
It would make a better studio facility than a Bass Pro. Lease it to PBS for a $1 a year and let them build a world class production facility with funds from the Gates Foundation. The publicity of shows "Produced at The PBS Pyramid in Memphis" would be worth the cost of the facility many times over. The money brought in by those jobs would be a boon to downtown and the influx of artists, producers, and talent would change this city for years.

now that's funny. our joke of a city council viewing it as a joke?

Are you a racist, prejudice, uneducated, or just a plain fool. I live in Memphis not *********, or Africa just Memphis. I graduated from the University of Memphis not the University of whatever. That is a very offensive comment to Memphians and supporters of Memphis athletics.
I never understood why the guy would be willing to play against a stacked deck anyway. I sure don't blame him for redirecting his plans.
There needs to be something for teenagers/young adults to do. The closest theme/water park is Hot Springs/St. Louis. The way gas is going its going to be very hard for families to make the trip. Plus the park was going to be open year around. What can Bass Pro do for the younger crowd? Nothing unless you into hunting and fishing which most is not.
It's more like running against a brick wall in the name of Robert Lipscomb, Herenton's righthand man. Lipscomb has been pushing Bass Pro from the get-go and blowing off the theme park plan. Some of the county commissioners did not feel like the theme park project was a joke but that Robert Lipscomb was.
