Cinci Guide Updated

I'd like to expand the section on nightlife: what are the bars near campus populated by students. Name, address and links helpful

Is the Kroger the only spot for last minute tailgate supplies or are there other good spots close to campus?

Any new motels near campus or downtown?

Is Buffalo Wild Wings the only sports bar near campus?

Any unique restaurants near campus not covered?

Thanks
TexanMark
The Holy Grail Bar and Grille: 13 West Charlton Street. Beats the heck out of BW3's and its closer to the stadium.

There are going to be a lot of changes to the pregame festivities around campus. You'll have to hold off until the official announcmentes get made.

Make sure you mention the on-campus bar and grill that you can access through the stadium:
The Catskeller

Other great bars for pre-game:
Christies Rathskeller (151 West McMillan Ave)
Uncle Woodies (339 Calhoun St.)
Do you know if the Holy Grail offers ESPN Gameplan or do they just have cable TV offerings?

Any idea when the 2008 pregame festivities will be announced? July, August? I do plan to make an update on the CInci links in late summer to modify any changes from the university. The Short Vine tailgatig sounds great--I was planning on making a trip to Cinci this year but the late November date gave me pause...instead I'll be going to Rutgers a few weeks earlier. Cinci will be done in 2010.

BTW, any Cinci fans have a formal tailgating group formed with a website or blog?

Also, one more thought: if you know of any nonprofit organization out there that sells parking spots for gameday--send me the info of where and how much, when you open the lot and if RVs are welcomed. I'll put it in the guide as a parking alternative.
Mark, drop BW3 on the UC campus. They support X more than they do UC.
Goodfellas in the old BW3 on short Vine.

Great sandwiches and cold beer.
Mark,

UC doesn't have a lot for RVs. However, folks usually park right on the street on Jefferson Ave. Marshall's fans last year showed up en masse and set up shop right there. Great idea.

Not sure on the official release on the new festivities/locations.

Isn't it relatively close to Nippert? Remember this is used by out of towner fans and visitors. So are you saying that BW3 is an Xavier hangout?
If you go to BW3, you have to walk by The Holy Grail to get to Nippert. Holy Grail is the place to be. Set up for UC sports, not despite it.
BTW: Make sure that the Oklahoma Guide is ready to roll. A bunch of us are heading to Norman this year. 03-wink

About where on Jefferson? IS it first come first serve parking there or are there lots the Marshall crew parked at? In my guide I'm trying to sway RV'ers to Short Vine but I'll mention Jefferson if you think it is advisable.

I've never been to Cinci for a game so I need specific info. 04-cheers

I already mentioned Goodfellas--couldn't find a website though.

It's actually ON campus, but they have more X posters and stuff in there than they do UC stuff. They do NOT deserve support.
The 2 blocks that run the length of the East border of the campus.

More precisely, Jefferson between Martin Luther King BLVD and Calhoun Ave. Yep, first come first serve.

Well I won't make you happy then (sorry)--I'm going to keep it in the blog. Many out of towners want a place like BW3 to hangout before the game since they carry a lot of football games...Sounds like the owner might be an X man...you guys need to bring your complaints to the manager.

So is it just on street parking? Are there parking meters? Any issues with towing? I assume you need to get there 3-4 hours prior to kickoff?

Guys thanks all for the great feedback 04-cheers

Keep it coming
Earlier the better. Meters but I don't know if they are required on Saturdays. Never heard of any towing issues.
The meters are required on Saturday..but i parked in metered spots in Clifton every saturday all day long this football season. It seems the meter maids only work 9-5 monday-friday.

I actually have liked the Clifton bdubs...whatever is on the walls (which i pay little attention to)...there are generally good, pro-bearcat crowds. I can never complain about that.
I like the BW3s as well but the X thing bothers me as well. It's nice and it's on campus now.

But we should also mention Martinos on Vine and Mecklenburg Gardens on Highland. Both are good places and I think Martinos has better beer prices than BW3's

Holy Grail is cool, but it's never been the same since they and Oldenberg stopped the beer brewing there. When they brewed their own Oldenberg there I absolutely loved the place. I thought it was the ******* greatest thing since slice bread (seriously) and the only thing that bummed me out was that it opened the year after I finished undergrad.

If they ever got to brewing beer there again I'd be in heaven.
Thanks for the inputs on the local bars...Bottomline, is BW3 the only closeby establishment to offer ESPN Gameplan, Directv, etc... around the university area? Every guide I do I try to identify the fullline sportsbars...it is good for the visiting fan who isn't tailgating but wants to watch some FB before or after the game.
Thanks for all the inputs...between your board and the Scout board I received some good info including a couple great emails. I expect to do a quick update in August. Enjoy and comments are always appreciated. TM
