John Riek, a 7-2 center out of Winchendon School in Massachusetts, could rank as a wild card in June's NBA draft. Riek, a native of Sudan, graduated from high school in 2006, which makes him eligible for the draft, according to the NBA age rules. He has a history of knee problems, but his potential might make him hard to pass up.
"Jeff Whineberger" reported ? 03-lmfao (sounds strange) at least 2-3 weeks ago, or at least infered that Cal was recruiting him. I didn't know he had a history of knee problems though..I don't think Memphis is one of his top 5 schools...at least not from interviews I have seen.
Stop!! Relax!! This is getting out of control.

Let it play out. There are numerous events that need to take place. Piece by piece.

Nobody on the board has nailed it. Some people have been on the cusp.

Of course, I have shared with Keith. He is not telling and neither am I.

What do we win if we guess who is behind door No.1?

Distinction, reputation and a new level of respect.

As long as we land Ebanks then the surprise is even more icing on an already delicious cake. Some plausible scenarios... and some not so plausible... without naming names would be...

1. The Tigers sign a guy most thought would not qualify.

2. A player that signed an LOI to another school does not qualify at that school and the Tigers sign him.

3. A school does not have room for all the guys that signed an LOI because someone returns that was thought to be going pro and that team is over the scholarship limit.

4. A player signed an LOI but because of a coaching change (like Indiana) gets out of the LOI and we land him. Maybe Leslie McDonald Elliott Williams is upset that Duke assistant Johnny Dawkins took the Stanford job and now realizes coach K lied to him in the recruiting process when he told LM EW "come to Duke and you'll get to play for a championship".

5. I guess there is always the Tyler Smith scenario, but seems like we'd have already seen smoke if that was the case since it would pretty much have to be a local player.

Did you mean Elliot Williams, instead of Leslie?
how about someone with these skills? Someone like Vernon Macklin, the Georgetown kid who's transferring...

Superior athlete who runs, rebounds and dunks. Loves to get out in transition and finish with a momentum changing jam. Needs to play with consistent effort. Can be a dominant rebounding force and will get them in traffic. Patrols the paint as a shot blocker and has been known to intimidate.

I know there was a thread on him earlier but I haven't seen him as a strong candidate for this mystery recruit.

There are numerous events that need to take place. Piece by piece.

Maybe these events revolve around getting his eligibility next year without having to sit out a year. Tyler Smith may have set some sort of precedent, you never know.
sucks that no one has nailed it - I really wanted it to be R. Harris.
I also thought the mystery recruit was rumored to be a big, not a guard or wing player...

You are correct. He is a "center".

Brooks H

This is hilarious.

This "Mystery Recruit" is for the 2008 class right?

It is a little maddening though, especially when you're like me and don't really know enough about the recruiting landscape to even make an educated guess.

Does anyone have any idea when this all may or may not go down one way or the other? I can deal better if I have a 'goal' in mind 03-wink

Yeah, me, too!
I have HIGH ANXIETY!
Well Stop!!

It could be two to three weeks before all of this falls into place. If you are astute, you will immediately know when it is happening.

Remember everything that has been said and the pieces will come together.

If you want to keep guessing, this is really good for "brain stimulation" and bad for "stress reduction". You need to choose your own course.

I'm with you on thatone, HoppDreams . . . I realy had my fingers crossed for Rashanti becoming eligible.

Let me give you something else to think about. Would Rashanti Harris becoming eligible really be a surprise?
Pitino to the Mav's, Samardo Samuels to the Tigers.

That was My Guess!! But why would Pitino go back to the Pro's, He is set money wise at Louisville. How much money does 1 person need?? Geez give me some..
