I can't view videos at work, so I'm not even sure if this is "our" Matt Simpkins or what the video is. If you can view it, let me know if it's worth checking out later from home

ahhh, got ya...should have waited til I got home. I'm avoiding working.
cool cause I hadn't seen that one. He can get after it on the boards, has a nice shooters touch from 15 ft in and can jump like mad. Thanks for that.
Very quick release on the jumper

Cool!! I hadn't seen that one. Simpkins looks like an exciting player to watch.
I really like his game, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

btw, where have I seen that last dunk before?????.........lol!
I think Simpkins is going to be amazing. He seems to have Dozier's athletic ability but is a little better on the interior. I think he's going to be a great player.

Agreed Stammers. I think he is much more important for us than Garcia.

Just to remind everyone, Simpkins is STILL the same kid that averaged 17pts, 13rebs and 6 blocks per game his SOPHOMORE year when he played at Capital Christian. He's just going to be 3 years older, an inch or two taller and 10-15lbs more of muscle. This kid could be our diamond in the rough.

We all know Cal is good at finding diamonds

Too funny. Our diamonds in the rough are now rated higher than Dozier, Hunt, Dorsey, CDR, Carney...

I mainly just used that description because it seems to be that everyone overlooks Simpkins in terms of the impact he could have in our rotation. I think if there's ONE incoming player that can make an immediate impact besides Evans, it's Simpkins. We will be in desperate need of a athletic big that runs the floor and really really wants to rebound and block shots. I think Simpkins could be that guy.

these guys appear to have enjoyed playing together over the past year and have formed some chemistry between one another. This bond played well for the 07/08 team. Looks like these guy have a made a commitment between each other to come play at U of M and bring this already established chemistry.

I couldn't agree more. I am thrilled to have Witherspoon and Garcia but we can win without them next year. We can win if we don't land Ebanks. I would say that we can even win without Evans, when you factor in what our needs are.

In order for us to have a legitimate shot at winning next year we will need for either Simpkins or Niles to make a measurable contribution. By that I mean 10-15 minutes per game of scoring, rebounding and defense. Without that from one of them we will lose games we should win and we will be susceptible to being upset at any time. If we can get one of them to give us this; we will be nearly impossible to beat.

If there is one advantage to next year's team; it is that we won't be dependent on two players like we were on Rose and CDR at the end of the season. Cal needs to round the team into a deep squad where he has genuine trust in 9 or 10 players.

Cal might trust them but he says all the time that stars need to be stars. Players have to get more comfortable so they can be counted on. I was disappointed that Mack didn't hit a 3 outside of the 1st round. All we needed was one in the national championship game.

We will need Evans ability to break people down. There are a lot of question marks about next year's team. Who are the scorers? Jeremy Hunt and CDR were the consistent scorers in 07 that no one was aware of. 08 was CDR and Rose. Can Dozier and Anderson be consistent enough we know points are coming from them? Evans will be one scorer and might be the best scorer on the team next year.
He looks like a Dorsey with an outside shot.
He does not look like Dorsey, but in 6 years he might, maybe he looks like a 17 year old Dorsey?

We will have one go-to guy next season, and his name is Tyreke Evans, he will average 20+ points a game. Kemp, Anderson, Mack, Robinson, Witherspoon and Dozier will score some. The trick will be getting Taggart good enough on the defensive end and rebounding to keep him on the floor, he could be our second leading scorer.

Of course, any of these recruits could turn in to superstars, maybe Ebanks, Witherspoon, Simpkins, Garcia or Harris can average double figures, who knows?

But with Anderson, Kemp, Mack, Robinson, Taggart and Dozier holding down the fort (they would win CUSA and be sweet 16), Evans scoring 20-30 and maybe an under 300 Niles out there slapping folks around, if any of these other highly touted recruits can sit any of these guys down we will most definitely be a top 5 program and in the hunt in '09.

Ya'll watch out for Evans, he will be the most potent scorer we have ever seen, yes, CDR, Hardaway, Finch and Lee, well maybe not Lee, included. And I don't mean scoring to the detrement of the team like Wagner was, I mean scoring like," you need some more points, there, you got em."

Seems like a reasonable assessment. Of course Ebanks could add to the freshmen impact, and then there is the mystery recruit.

Oh how we are going to need some semblance of an inside presence next year.
