Maureen's blog says James Davis asked out of his LOI because of Stan's firing and just signed with Wyoming. He was a strong recruit and losing him might hurt long term, although he's a wing guard so with kent and amos there he wasn't expected to be a key guy until 09.

This gives Cross at least 2 scholarships to work with. Word is that he is after a JC guard out of Chicago and Mott CC. Can't recall the name but he was the JC division 2 player of the year. Big time scorer. Getting offers from high profile schools so will see if Cross can work some early magic. I do think we need some more scoring for next season, especially another shooter. Kent is streaky and Amos will get points but isn't always a guy to go to in the half court sets. Rid is a solid player but has never developed into a knock down jump shooter so it would be nice to have a guy who can light it up. We'd find him minutes.

Cross also said in the very thorough RocketDigest interview that he still wants another point even with Bastfield on board. Not sure what this says about Becklens, but surely we don't want to be an injury away from sending kent back to the point.

I'd also like to see a real banger signed if we can get a quality big guy at this juncture, although that might be tough.

I'd expect news to come through on the recruitign front pretty regular for the next couple weeks, although little of it will be on the record as coaches are fighting it out for the last few good prospects out there
That's too bad about Davis. He may have been a replacement for Kent and Amos in '09. Like the idea of going after another PG but man do we really need a big guy, especially if we want to go anywhere next season.

Maybe Coach Cross initiated Davis' departure.
If he did, I doubt it was about his ability. Davis is an excellent athlete, has good size and good range. Was a typical Stan recruit in that he was an athletic swingman who could score in a lot of ways but wasn't great at anything and had the potential to be a tough defender. I know he liked the previous staff so he may have been sour about UT once Stan was fired. Never heard any issues about him, other than the obvious academic ineligibility per no NCAA certification last yr.

Signed with a Wyoming program that is down at the moment but usually plays real real good bball in a good bball league, although Laramie is a pretty remote place for a city kid from the midwest.
