Quote:Caleb Patterson asked for and was granted a release from his scholarship early last week, according to Caleb’s father, Rodger Patterson.

Patterson, from Ringwood, Okla., appeared in 14 games during the 2007-08 season, his true freshman year at CU. While he played in nine non-conference games, the lanky big-man saw action in only five Big 12 contests.

Maybe this is why they felt they could give another point guard a scholarship for 08 because they knew they had a 7 footer coming in on with an 09 scholarship or something like that. Let's get this kid a visit and land him. At that size to go with the other Colorado big man transfer we'll have some size for a couple years down the road. He'll join a team that will have next year to gel as young players and ready to make real noise in 09-10.

The good thing about Sean Kowal, Xavier Silas, and now this kid is that all of them played as true freshmen. So when they're transferring they can use their redshirt so they don't lose a year of eligibility. This kid would play as a sophomore, Silas will play as a junior, and Kowal will play as a sophomore this coming season.
I know very little about Sean Kowal, can we expect good things out of him, can he be an impact player in the MAC. Any insight would be appreciated.
Sean K. was a 3 star athlete coming out of Mo. his senior year.
Kowal is going to be interesting. I have no idea how good he'll be, but he's just about the only big man left on the team, so we should get to see plenty of him.

Scout had Kowal as a 3* and Rivals had him as a 2* out of high school. The other schools interested according to Rivals: St. Louis, Ball State, Albany & Austin Peay.

Patterson leaving CU basketball

By Tom Kensler
The Denver Post
04/21/2008

Quote:Caleb Patterson, a 6-foot-11 center from Ringwood, Okla., who played in 14 games as freshman in 2007-2008, is leaving the Colorado men's basketball program.

Patterson requested and was granted his release, his father, Rodger Patterson, confirmed Monday. An original Ricardo Patton recruit, Patterson is in good academic standing and will complete this semester at CU before transferring to another school in June. He already has visits scheduled for Missouri State, Texas-Arlington and Northern Illinois.
A 7 footer who will have 3 years to play? Count me in, although we are starting to run out of scholarships. Hopefully if this kid wants to transfer to NIU and the feeling is mutual, we've got a spot open.
It helps having Patton on the team, serviceable player who doesn't take up a scholarship. Did Nichols get one yet, and do we know if Pancrantz is still on scholarship? If those 3 are not using one that'd be good.

Patterson felt he had to leave program

By Ryan Thorburn
Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Quote:Caleb Patterson only took 30 shots in a Colorado uniform.

And the humble freshman from Ringwood, Okla., wasn't about to add to that total by taking a parting shot at Jeff Bzdelik on Tuesday.

"He treated me fairly, to an extent," Patterson told the Camera about 24 hours after Bzdelik released him from his basketball scholarship at CU. "I don't really want to comment about that."

Quote:Another transfer?...

Caleb Patterson, a 6-foot-11 center and the sixth Colorado basketball player to leave since coach Jeff Bzdelik was hired as the Buffaloes coach, will visit Northern Illinois this weekend according to the Rocky Mountain News.

NIU coach Ricardo Patton recruited Patterson when Patton was the head coach at Colorado.

Patton already signed sophomore guard Xavier Silas, another former Colorado player.

Patterson said he also hopes to visit Texas-Arlington and Missouri State.
A Big 12 front court would be pretty nice even if it's Colorado's that's still going to be better then most MAC schools.
We need another big man. Might as well be this guy, Patton already knows him, already has a bit of experience, and has a red shirt to burn.

Missouri State should have Scolarships left as they had 5 Sr. on the team last year and only signed 3 so far. Texas-Arl. had 3 Sr. and signed 4 I don't know who has the advantage.

I also found out that Kyle Wright a 6'6" Walk-on at Colorado and Transfer from S-B wanted to also transfer to NIU as He was a Teammate of Xavier Salis at Brewster but NIU didn't have a Scholarship for him so he is staying at Colorado. If they don't have a ship for Wright i don't know how we have one for Patterson

This Keith Smart Kid better be good as we are missing out on some good players.

If Bristan Kelley ends up on the football team then that will open up another scholarship. I'm still confused on what Xavier Silas' tender means. Does that mean he won't be on scholarship until 2009-2010? Maybe they tell Patterson he has to wait until 2009-2010 until he gets a scholarship. Does a transfer on scholarship who has to sit out a season count against your 13 scholarships? I don't know why it would considering that person can't play.

At the time Wright wanted to transfer here, the Bristan Kelley football experiment thing was in the VERY early stages. Now, it looks like Kelley is serious and might actually switch to football, and that opens up a potential spot for Patterson. At least, that is how I've been told the story, it's all a matter of timing and luck basically. And again, as long as Smith can play point, he's worth it. We need people who can handle no matter how tall they are or aren't.
We do really need a PG, besides Patton we had no one who could really run the offense. Hopefully Smith is the guy.

Chicagohoops.com rankings of the THREE point guards we signed.
42. Mike Dinunno 6-0 Point Guard Chicago Von Steuben
46. Bryan Hall 6-2 Point Guard Chicago Whitney Young
100. Keith Smith 5-6 Point Guard Chicago St. Ignatius

So everybody is fine with having
4 – PG
6 – SG
2 – SF
3 – PF (Two Walk-ons) Minus Kelley
1- C (that is a project)

To me we are going to have problem if we do sign Patterson because having two 6-11 Centers is cool but who would they be able to guard when the MAC is dominate with athletic 6’8” forwards not 6’11” skinny white guys.

All we need is a athletic 6'8" forward that can score in the post.
Damn, the day as come that I agree with Zao. We need a few 6' 7" or 6' 8"guys that can score and rebound on this roster.
HuskieJ.. that's a lot easier said then done in the MAC. Not sure how many guys in the MAC fit that profile.
I thought word was DiNunno was more of a combo gaurd.

Obviously were going with a 3 gaurd offense, and it makes sense in the MAC.. I'm not worried about the height.
