There's the link to his profile again.
Well I wish him luck.

He looks like he can raise funds a bit, so he has that going for him.
Kinda ironic we hired a Huskie.

I think you mean Husky.
Seems to be in the JP mode. Looks like it will be here for a few years and then off to another school. I don't think that's a bad thing. Welcome to the Huskie Family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Couldn't agree more. If we keep pumping out AD's who leave for bigger schools, we ar edoing something right.

Another good point sir....

Another thing I like about the improve it and move it theme we've had with AD's is that we also have a school president that is here until retirement (and he's pretty damn good too.) It allows for an AD that wants to make significant rapid changes to do so without going overboard to make a splash because the President can still looks toward the long term. If you have a short term school president and a long term AD there will be conflict because the president will want immediate change. Also if both the AD and University are short term type guys might disregard the long term outlook for immediate success.

Doing what right? Being really good at being a stepping stone?

I hope Peters likes trying to find a new AD every 2-3 years.

Umm, being really good at hiring quality athletic directors?

Yay lets not choose the best possible canidate because they might leave us in a few years. That logic makes no sense at all.
Interesting. I would have imagined a hire with some Chicago ties.
Here is a small blurb on Compher from an article about the UW AD Todd Turner.

The First Lieutenant

When Compher was listening to Turner's hiring pitch at Washington, he was impressed. Turner told him the school's place in the state's conscience was similar to that of the University of North Carolina. It had the professional schools, it was a flagship university, it had some prestige academically.

"And here's the great thing," Compher remembers Turner telling him. "Football is really good here."

Oops.

Since he said that, football is 3-19 at Washington, an unheard-of abyss that dwarfs every other challenge facing Turner's regime.

It is Compher, 47, to whom Willingham and basketball coaches Lorenzo Romar and June Daugherty report. As Turner explains it, the external demands of the athletic director can paralyze decision-making without someone else in charge when the department head is out. That someone is Compher, who had worked with Turner at both North Carolina State and Vanderbilt.

"He'll speak his mind to me in ways maybe some other people don't," Turner said, "and that's important."

Compher is chief operating officer, a position that didn't exist under Hedges. While he deals with most of Washington's highest-profile sports, the work is not always glamorous. He spends lots of time in meetings, answering questions, signing forms, keeping paperwork flowing.

"Some may call it boring," Compher concedes, but he doesn't.

"He's a very likeable colleague among the people in this building," Turner said, "but he's also disciplined and he can be tough when he needs to be."
On the surface I like this guy. His resume is strong, and clearly indicative of a guy who has been on the rise. Like I said before I could care less if the new AD views NIU as a stepping stone. The imperative is to get the best person for the job, not some medicore feather weight content to have his/her career peak out at a MAC school. We don't need a safe bet. Nor do we need somebody who wears 15 pieces of NIU flair just so we can all feel good. Kudos to John Peters.

You have been on the ball lately my friend. Could not agree more.
Sure glad that relieves the pressure of two days as Interim AD for Collins.

Seriously, how soon will JC assume his ADship? ?
as official as it can get Monday nite before it's official Tuesday:

Quote:NIU officials selected Compher over the other finalist for the job, UCLA senior associate athletic director Ross Bjork, sources said.

Sounds like a solid pick to me. Anyone surprised that we were able to land him? What about the guy from UCLA that we were considering? How is it that we were able to have a shot at these guys coming from such prestigious schools like UW & UCLA?
well I can maybe see UCLA, but by all rights, what has UW done in sports the last 5? Not saying northern is better, but he might be looking to model phillips. If he could use us to get to a better school like ND for ex. whats wrong w/ Northern then?

Not to state the obvious- but because they want to be ADs and NIU offers a program with a complete array of sports including FBS football. NIU is, in short, a good job.
