On Tuesday, state regulators denied a request from Central DuPage Hospital to build a $140 million proton ray therapy cancer-treatment center in Warrenville.

The Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board voted, 3-1, to issue an intent to deny CDH’s application for a state permit, known as a certificate of need.

Finally NIU gets a break. Really surprised here due to the U of I - Chicago backroom influence in the CDH bid. I think getting NU Hospital systems doctors onboard with the NIU bid was big in this case.
Biggest NIU win of the year!
Here is a link to the IHFPB report granting an exception to Certificate of Need requirement--needed when acquiring medical equipment in excess of about $7.2 million--NIU's will cost $159 million.
