The #'s are mind boggling. Reported $6 million signing bonus. Contract in the neighborhood of 6-8 years @ $3.5-4 million/year. It has also been reported that if he completes his contract there will be a fulfillment bonus in the neighborhood of $10 million.

This puts Saban's contract to shame.

He does have a history with OSU beyond just the money. Wife was a cheerleader, he was a GA there, etc.

I would not blame him a lick if he ade the move.

I wonder if KU loses, will Bonnie Berstein ask Self about the OSU job?

That would be some bad deja vu
Hasn't he already denied that he would consider it? Wait, I almost forgot--he's a coach. Nevermind.
Not fair that each time Kansas makes it to the final, they have to be dogged by questions about their coach leaving. Last time it was Roy Williams to UNC, now it's Self to OSU. ...and they just got some pay-back on Roy and UNC

Not fair. Not fair. Not fair. 03-hissyfit

Can you imagine if we ever make it that far? That's all the pundits would discuss, "where is UAB's coach going?"

the local pundits do that now.03-banghead
If we make it to a NC game, then it'll go nationwide.

Hey, I'll take it.................I'd love me some of that worry03-lmfao
Funny that I haven't heard any of that about Calipari.

A mid major coach has a better than decent shot at the national title and his name isn't being thrown into every Big 6 coaching vacancy discussion?

Why is that?

You will hear Calipari to Kansas if/when that job comes open.

Memphis will have to give him a fat raise.
North Carolina State fans are still upset Calipari didn't go there a couple of years ago.
Some Memphis fans have feared that Kansas is the one job Calipari would leave Memphis for. He got his coaching start there and what better time to leave the Tigers than after playing in the championship game and three of his top players, CDR, Rose and Dorsey leaving the team.
Interesting.
You still see posters on the Mizzou board saying they should have hired Calipari instead of Anderson. I have yet to see one give any form of reasonable answer as to why Cal would have left Memphis for Missouri, but reason and logic seem to be in extreme short supply on that board, LOL.

I think the list of schools that Cal would leave Memphis for is pretty short, but you have to figure that any coach would have to very seriously consider accepting an offer from Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, or UCLA. There just are not that many jobs that are considered the top of the profession. If you're offered one, you have to think long and hard about taking it.

That's not to say I think Calipari is actively looking to leave Memphis... but there are jobs you really have to think twice and then a third time before you turn them down.

As to Self to OSU - well, step down in job or not, T. Boone Pickens has very deep pockets indeed. If you want to cash in for a few years he'll pay enough to supply the anesthesia needed to live in Stillwater, Ok.
