The Huskies opened spring drills, sans pads, with a 7:30 a.m. practice Monday. It was the first run under Kill, the former Southern Illinois coach, who arrived by 5:30 after stopping at a gas station for his morning coffee.

Senior defensive end Larry English said the competition started before Monday.
