Memphis is in trouble.

8 minutes to go - virtually tied - and Memphis' key players all have 4 fouls.

It's kinda weird rooting for Memphis, but I am.
I know all the reasons why I should root for Memphis, but I can no longer do so. Their fan base -- and specifically a number of their board members -- has turned me off that team for all eternity.
If Memphis loses this game, I imagine some of their posters will blame UAB somehow.
I dislike SEC Elitism more than Memphis.

This is a really good game.
The Memphis thread is hilarious over on their board. They are in disbelief. And, of course, blaming the officiating, something they took us to task for a few weeks ago. It's so hilarious when the shoe is on the other foot.
They are about to turn this into a chess match. Miss State is going to start fouling with 3.5 minutes left since Memphis can't shoot FTs.

Tigers have the win at this point.

UM > SEC
I may have spoken too soon. Memphis missed too many FTs and now has a 3 point lead with 10 sec left.

Fixed

They can't hit a free throw. I can't believe such talent can't get the freebies.
How in the world are they missing these free throws?
Memphis won.
Memphis wins. If they wanna go to the Elite Eight, they better hit their freebies.
They shot 47% from the FT line. That is some Shaq-esque shooting.
everybody says this, but memphis has lost what, six or seven games over 3 seasons?
the FTs maybe make some games closer than they should be but you can't exactly say it's costing them many games.
"I know all the reasons why I should root for Memphis, but I can no longer do so. Their fan base -- and specifically a number of their board members -- has turned me off that team for all eternity."

I'm also definitely turned off by their fan base, showing up here like in-laws sleeping on the couch six weeks after Christmas (and I really, really hate my in-laws). And anyone who roots through other members' Reputation comments looking to be offended needs, in all seriousness, professional help. And I do wish my brothers and sisters would stay off their board, just to tamp down the infestations here.

But with all that, the thought of our local asSEC-kissing-media crowing in triumph over "SEC! best confurunce in thuh cuntry! yeeeeehaw!" had me pulling for Memphis to make their damned free throws. The "USA's spot should have gone to the 8th-place team in the SEC" piece by Ray "Siena? Who's That?" Melick was bad enough.
even if you can't stand us, the win means money in the bank for the conference.
Look at it this way, CUSA has as many teams in the Sweet Sixteen as the SEC.
I was pulling for Memphis. I just don't hate them like some of you guys. Mainly because my brother's kid went there and he's a good sport.

I do recall remarking to Mrs. Smaug, though, when Moo U. tossed up that desparation heave, "If Memphis had hit some free throws, it would have never come to that."

A CUSA team sent an $EC team home. That makes me glad.

Now, when Loserville plays the Vawls, I will then be pulling for the meteor.
