If St Louis is able to hire Majerus, how about Jarvis to Toledo?
That would be the worst selection ever. Jarvis is not a likeable person, so UT could not effectively use him to promote the basketball program. Scandal has hit ever school he has been to. His success at SJ was with Fran Fraschilla's recruits (Artest, Thornton, Hamilton, etc). His scandals at SJ were similar to O'Brien at Ohio St., he was paying players to go there, but he was paying terrible players. Abe Keita was Jarvis' version of Boban Savovic.
i'm going to go with no..........
I'm not finding anything horribly scandalous.

How grave a sin that it can't be forgiven? How much culpability does a coach bear? Is Stan's firing due more to the infractions, impending probation and arrests that some here have recently mentioned will be occurring at UT in the next week or two? Is it fair?

Maybe he's learned his lesson, maybe not.
Seriously, why do you want Jarvis? It makes no sense. He isn't a good coach, he's an *******, and scandals got him fired at SJ.

I'm putting names out there to get a feel for what other fans feel and apparently they feel numbness.
I'm not saying much because I'm still learning the game. I didn't grow up following basketball and I don't feel I know enough to judge coaching talent.

Majerus was paid $1 million at St.Louis.
I just noticed you are a Seton Hall fan. What is your opinion of Louis Orr? What do you think of Seton Hall firing him with 2 years left on his contract? Do you think BGSU made a good hire?

Louis Orr is a good person and a good basketball coach. He needs some polishing in terms of off the court stuff, especially media relations and donor relations. Alienating boosters ultimately did him in at SHU. He was rushed into the job (only had one year as a head coach before going to a Big East program) and personality-wise, I don't think he was ready. He had success overall as the SHU coach, and even had two NCAA appearances. Consistency was never a strong suit while he was there. There were legit reasons for his firing and obviously we can't go back on it now. The only thing that bugs me is how underachieving Bobby Gonzalez has been and how much of an embarrassment he has been on the court at times.

I think Orr is a great hire by BG. Obviously, he is better than Dakich (that isn't hard to do) and put together some good wins this year with a team lacking in talent (especially after Marschall's injury and Hamblet's ineligibility). He has a good core with Miller, Knight, and Moten and I am interested to see how Jakubowski matures next season. BG should be in good shape next year.

Mike Jarvis' best recruit was Yinka Dare while he was at GW. His best recruit at SJ was Elijah Ingram, who was eventually kicked out of school and ended up at New Mexico St.

O'Brien has said he wants to use the new coach to promote the new arena and to be an influence in gaining season ticket holders. Jarvis' surly personality (I'm being nice here) would work against both of those goals.

I'm aware of that. What I'm not sure of is how much money he made as an analyst and if he increased or decreased his earnings by going back to coaching. My guts tell me he went back to coaching because that's what he loves to do. I figure this is the "brainstorming phase" of the hiring process so why not spit out all kinds of names for the sake of discussion? What we think doesn't matter anyway only in that we can apparently vote on who we like as coach by purchasing or not purchasing tickets.

Plus UT wouldn't pony up the $700,000-$800,000 Jarvis would want.

Stan was not MOB's guy.
A late season run saved his job a couple seasons ago and got him the extension.
Attendance is down.
Excitement is down.
UT basketball in general is just plain down.
12 seasons is a long time and no denying Jop had his chance.
Stan lost his job because it was just time.
Trust me, there is a consensus.
Stan was generally liked.
Stan was not a great coach.

I agree, but I think that may not be too far out of the pay range UT will end up going when incentive clauses are figured in.
often there's a reason guys are working as "analysts" and not being paid to coach.

i'm more interested in us finding a good coach who has integrity than a big name. sure, if ut can find a name coach who is available and is willing to take a mid level d1 salary, who can coach his ass off but isn't one, go for it
