Good job BE, oh yeah SU beat Maryland in the consolation tournament too. Even though most of their fans hate us congrats to them as well.
Great opener for the league. While we were favored in all 4 contests, it was far from a given to run the opening day table.

WVU really played well to take down Arizona from that "top league in the nation" known as the PAC-10. They were clutch down the stretch when UA hit a few 3's to draw within a point.

Notre Dame was a fashionable upset victim for some, but they dominated GMU from the start. GMU took a 7-6 lead three minutes in, but ND went on a 17-0 run and the game was over that quick.

Marquette played well enough to take down Kentucky by 8, sending the Cats home on opening day for the first time since 1987.

Pitt crushed Oral, and the game was never in doubt.

In the NIT, Syracuse cruished past Maryland into the final 8. They host UMass or Akron for a trip back to the Garden.
Big East is by far the King conferencw in NCAA basketball and todays results only prove it. I love how WVU took down big bad Pac 10 power Arizona . ESPN all year was high on that league and WVU handled them like they were Providence. SU also beatdown big bad ACC power Maryland easily too infact we are 2-0 against that league this year.

I think we go 4-0 tommorrow with Nova blowing away Clemscum
Much as I can't stand ND, I certainly support them in the tourney, and I'm impressed with the way they handled GM. Lot's of people seemed to be on GM's bandwagon as an "upset" seed.

Hope you're right about Nova, Pusher. I picked Clemson, tell you the truth, but I think it'll be a good one either way.
As of this moment, we still have 8 teams in the tourney. Can today's BEasts hold up their end of the bargain?

Let's go for an all BEast Elite 8, and turn the NCAA tourney into The BEast tourney Part II. 04-rock
What a great start by the Big East!

Only game I thought might be trouble was the West Virginia game against Arizona. But the Eers pulled out a nice comfortable win, even with Alexander not going for 25-30.

And amazingly, for those who follow such things, the NCAA units earned already by the league this year equals the total number of units that it will replace from the 2001-02 year (12).

Cheers,
Neil
Big East is the best conference period. We have 4 teams that really could be in the final four and or win the NC. Nobody else really comes close.

Keep it up today Big East! Make it 8-0!
Oliver Purnell certainly has the history of choking in big games... I'm not saying Clemson will do it today, but I would not be surprised. I picked Villanova because I think either of them will lose to Vandy in the next round.
UConn might be in trouble. A.J. Price just went down with a knee injury. They can little afford to lose him.
Connecticut shouldn't have any problems getting to the Sweet 16 without Price. They went on their 10 game winning streak this year without key players. And that stretch was tougher then the first 2 or 3 rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Time for the Big East teams to advance to the Sweet 16! It gives the conference money and helps recruiting. Big East teams aren't going to be scared or intimidated of anyone in the NCAAs, we play those type of teams every week!
Wow, I didn't realize the UConn game was going on right now and they were losing! And San Diego beat Kentucky at Rupp Arena and won their conference Tournament so they are dangerous.
Yep. Still down with 4 minutes to go.
Connecticut showed no defensive intensity at all at the end of the game. All they needed was one stop. And they had 2 chances to get that stop and they didn't get it.
Opps, UConn laid a dud. I guess they aren't the best team in the nation afterall.
Ah well. Them's the breaks. They can try again next year.

We're 5-1 so far. Can we make it 7-1, and limit our first round losses to UConn?
