The Kurse of Kevin.
If they do with the NC, it will be the second year in a row that we lost to the eventual national champions via spectacular last minute belly floppage (Florida last year).
...and, as MB will tell you, the only other 03-nutkick bigger than the one we took in Memphis was delivered by UNLV, the eventual NCAA Champs.
How far do you guys think Memphis will go in the tournament? I think a NC for Memphis would be good for the conference, but I see them possibly struggling against the potential match ups of Pitt and Texas.

Pitt is playing extremely well right now and Texas will have the home court crowd in Houston. Tough road for a #1 seed. Good luck.

Well, if Pitt gets to a matchup with Memphis, they better hope that they stay hot. That's the only way a team will beat Memphis. Memphis hasn't really gone cold all year, and when they even get luke-warm they still find a way to win.

I actually picked Memphis to beat Tennessee in the final. I think my Final Four is Georgetown, Tennessee, Memphis, and Duke.

I don't think Memphis winning the NC will have any effect whatsoever on the conference.
Memphis did better in the conference tournament but if they continue to struggle with free throws, they are going to have big problems in the tournament. If they shoot less than 70% from the line, they could leave by the Sweet 16 round. If they shoot like they did in the conf. tournament, they may make the final four.
Personally, I hope Memphis goes all the way. I think that some of the money they make in the NCAA tournament is split between all C-USA schools. Is that correct?
Memphis winning a national title would be good for the conference for sure, but it also bolsters their claim and desire to move on to other conferences. Yes, I know it's our responsibility to make sure that if any moves take place that UAB is going along with Memphis, but if we can't better our position and Memphis continues to take a commanding edge in basketball, we might be left behind. Memphis could be a strong expansion candidate regardless of whether they win a national title... but having a national title in hand only makes their case that much stronger. And I'm not against them moving up, but I also don't want UAB to be left in the dust either.
A team with a VERY deliberate half court set and deep/strong inside game will beat Memphis. Get 7 fouls between Dorsey & Dozier and Memphis gets weak inside. You can't run with them. Well we can/did and it got us a 1 point loss, but Bartow Arena has got to be worth 8-9 points for us right now.

As far as free throws go, they can play hack a Tiger, except CDR, Rose & Dozier hit their important free throws and no one else will touch the ball at crunch time.

Georgetown didn't.

I think it will. If Memphis doesn't play well in the tourney, everybody will be talking about how weak our conference is and how it failed to prepare Memphis for the NCAAs. If Memphis runs the table or gets to the FF, I think CUSA gains much more respect as a conference overall. jmo
I just think if Memphis does poorly, they'll blame it on the conference not preparing them. If Memphis wins it all, they'll say it was done in spite of a lack of preparation by the 11 dwarves. I just don't see this having any positive effect on the conference from a national perspective. About the only positive I could see coming from it might be a little help in recruiting, but that would probably be marginal at best.
Disagree. If Memphis does well it is good for the conference. It isn't just Memphis... any CUSA members who do well reflect well for the entire conference. Equally, when a team finishes with only three wins for the season... it stinks for the conference.

The payout alone for Memphis winning it all would be positive for all CUSA members. Now I say we sweep the post season tourneys as a conference :)
Look at it this way: Memphis makes the Final Four this year, Rose and CDR go pro (in addition to losing the seniors), we get everyone back (but Frank), in 2009 we get Cousins plus every other stud in the country. BANG, karma has done the full circle.

Seriously, sports are cyclic. The worm will turn, then turn again, and again......

Elite Eight.
"Seriously, sports are cyclic. The worm will turn, then turn again, and again"

And we can tell the Memphis posters how if they are patient and very, very good, then maybe someday they will be almost as worthy as we!

I thought we did that in 2004. And it came true!
