Hey guys, we need to get together and make sure the marketing department in the athletic department is still planning on doing an official Red Riot blackout game. From everything that has been released recently it doesn't acknowledge such an event. This would be a great way for Red Riot to get our name out and to raise donations for the NIU Scholarship Fund while handing out t-shirts.
does anyone know which game we're blacking out? since we did homecoming last year, i think it should be any game other than that one... maybe the first game (that way we really can give tribute to the memory of 2/14)?
I was thinking one of the later games, like BGSU or CMU (ESPN coverage), that way if we have another bad season, we have something to draw people to the game with and we can blitz the heck out of students with the information through various venues (facebook, emails, flyers, maybe a small note in everyone's dorm mailbox, etc.).
Central Michigan would be the best IMO since it is on ESPN and it is also a night game, so a blackout would be awesome. Get this rolling early so this can be in full force come game day. Talk to Lundeens/Fatty's about shirts again as well.
To drive this into peoples heads you are going to need to pound away at them. Annoy them. Make it so they can't forget.
How about Black RR shirts next year starting right at the beginning of the year. Change it up a bit.
How about giving Red Riot shirts to all freshman at orientation? That way every new student gets at least 1 Red Riot shirt when they come to NIU.

The athletic department said the Red Riot could not use them as sponsors because they sell alcohol. We'd have to find other DeKalb businesses as sponsors.

Thats why this should have nothing to do with the Red Riot this year, too many restrictions.

We can find other businesses, there's tons of restaurants around and didn't Fatty's want to help last year. Plus, this is a great opportunity for the Red Riot to fundraise by selling the shirts for $5 and donating the money to the Feb 14 Scholarship Fund. Don't just give up. We have 8 months until November.
well, let's see; i think we can count on Chipotle and Fatty's to definitely donate, along with all the otherformer sponsors (Rammy's, VCB, The Phone Store). How about Huskies Pizza, Java 101, Mangos, The House Cafe, and Castle Bank? those are all local businesses that would probably pitch in for the cause. plus, we really should hit up relators; those people are ALWAYS up for a way to promote themselves.
i can also talk to my boss at the Daily Herald; i know that my department, Beep Central Magazine, does plenty of promotions for the football team, so i'm sure they'd consider the possibility of being a donor (esp if it's for a cause)

Excellent point. What is the cheapest we can get shirts for? Snoopy, how much were the Feb 14th shirts?

$3.60 / shirt. It all depends on how many you order.

Wow, that is cheap! Can this be done without the Athletic Dept, or will they shoot it down?

I dunno what you mean, if we want liquor stores then we can't be affiliated with the athletic department. If we do other DeKalb businesses then we're fine. Personally, i don't like being affiliated with the athletic department. They don't help us much and when we ask them to do things they say, "yeah, we can do that", but never do. If you mean donating the money to the Scholarship fund, that would be fine because these shirts would be making no reference to the tragedy, these wouldn't be memorial shirts.

I am just wondering if the AD would allow us to use Huskie Logos for our shirts if they weren't involved.

Why wouldn't they? They let you use them for the Road Crew shirts, right? Would they really hold a grudge against a student fan group all because we decided to go independent? Seems rather immature.

Yeah it does, but I wouldn't doubt it. We would have to talk to them about it.
