...has anything to do with the schedule being so unattractive that it's best for NIU to collect as much upfront before the SH!T hits the fans making season tix an even harder sell?

nope
It's not really a discount. It's the same price as last season. As far as i've seen the last few years, NIU has always started selling season tickets before the schedule comes out just like most other football programs are selling their's right now.
there is a monetary incentive this year to purchase new season tix before the spring game.
You think that's something? Today in the mail, I got my renewal application for 2008-2009 basketball season tickets! That's right, the current season is not over and they are officially soliciting for next season's tickets! I think that Athletics is off its rocker. Either that, or they are trying to get all 2008 monies in by the time Phillips leaves to add another feather to his cap. This is ridiculous. We have HASF donations, football season tickets, and chairback options all due, and now they are trying to sock us with next year's basketball tickets. Of course, they added the carrot that if we renew by April 1, we will get the same price as this year's tickets. After this season, I think a discount would be more appropriate! Sorry, Athletics. I will not renew my tickets until September - when we always have renewed them
U tell'em DF !

Except we're not big time. Nowhere close.

right you are....and the drive to raise more money by NIU is simply scratching the surface of what prime time programs raise and we already are "skweezin" many NIU fans who are only being asked to boost NIU one step forward yet just pay one third or less than what big time fans pay......yet we often read here that the goal of the program should be to reach for higher levels....

We cannot have it both ways: relatively modest beer budget campaign$ to increase donations and revenues while wanting a taste of grand marnier cognac.

I'm good with beer budgets and becoming a consistent winner as a midmajor.
