I posted this as a reply to another thread but I figured I would start this new one so that all the Tiger fans could view it.

We have a new QB that has enrolled into school. The kids name is Byron Ingram. He played at Redan High School (Stone Mountan, GA). I saw him play in high school. He's very impressive athletically. 6'-5". Very good foot speed for his size. Solid arm strength. He's not the type of kid that was ready to play imediately out of high school though. With some added strength and experience he could be a stud in his Junior and Senior seasons. Depending on his work ethic he might be ready to compete for a starting job after he sit's out a year. This is an excellent pick-up and gives us a very good QB prospect for the future.

sweet - thanks for the info...any word on the DB prospect?
Thanks for the news! He's obviously not on GT's current roster on their web site, but did locate Byron on an archived one:

Plus he was a three-star on rivals.com coming out of High School. We'll probably still want to sign at least one High School QB in the fall since he won't have a true freshman QB this year. In addition, the only possible other QB from the 2007 class, Dallas Walker, may be moved to another position?

Three star excellent pick up? I don't know if I would go that far. How about good pick up.

From an athletic standpoint, College of the Canyons CB Tyler Roby (6-3, 210) has few peers. He's a gifted cover-corner who has the size and speed to battle almost any type of receiver. Roby was getting early interest from a number of schools, but with over three weeks passed since letter-of-intent day, the playmaking defensive back is still waiting to sign on the dotted line.

"I had a lot of interest from a lot of different schools," Roby told JCFootball.com. "I had offers from Kansas State, Utah State, Florida International and Ole Miss and schools like Oklahoma, Hawaii, Arizona State, West Virginia and LSU were calling me, but things just never worked out for me to sign."

Roby was leaning toward committing to Florida International shortly before signing day on February 6th, but he opted to wait and he no longer had an offer.

"I've been talking to Memphis a lot lately and I think they may be close to offering," Roby said. "If they offer me, I'm probably headed there, but I've just gotta be patient and wait to see how things pan out."

Roby was named First Team All-Western States Mountain Division for his play during the 2007 season.

"I finished with 16 tackles and five picks," Roby said earlier this month. "A lot of teams threw away from me, but I know it was out of respect for what I could do.

"You've gotta love it when they are scared to throw it your way, but it was sorta frustrating because I wanted to help our team more."

Roby will finish his two-year degree in May and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.

We'll continue to track his progress over the next couple weeks and update things as they happen.
Thanks.
wonder what the issue is with Roby? has to be something...
Ingram's father played for UT and won a superbowl with the patriots. He shows some promise. He is practicing with the team and won't be playing this fall, but he will be available for next year. I don't think he is a scholarship player yet.

I think it's excellent considering he landed on our door step out of no where. This pickup wasn't on anyones radar. This kid wanted to come to Memphis.

I will take a 6-5, athletic, 3 star QB just appearing at the admissions office anyday of the week.
His uncle and other family lives here. I liked him when he said he didn't want to play for Phillip Fulmer because Fulmer is a dumba**

Well, this young man just made thousand of Tiger fans thrilled with this pick up. I have no ideal about him, but with that statement, I just become an Ingram fan. Go Tigers Go.
Ingram is a marginal player. Hence he was never offered by any legit D-1 schools. He is going to be a walkon, right?

I believe he signed with Georgia Tech out of high school.

The Latest: Ingram attends GT-UGA game — 11/30/2005

Stone Mountain (Ga.) Redan quarterback Byron Ingram committed to Georgia Tech back in August and he was back at Bobby Dodd Stadium last weekend for the Jackets' big rivalry game with Georgia.[details]
I stand corrected.... I think? Just because someone commits to a school... Does that make them recruited by that school?....

There is a reason that somone with his apparent physical attributes is still out there.... The most common reason is something like this....

"Built like Tarzan....Play Like Jane"

I could be totally wrong.... But more often that not this is the case.....

I think that the kid from Harding from a couple of years ago falls into this category as well...

He signed with them and was on their 2007 roster
He was offered by UT and UGA too I believe.

I have a new favorite Tiger, even if he never unseats Mighty Terrelle Pryor, who will rack up 14,000 yards passing and 10,000 yards rushing in three years of play as the starting quarterback at Memphis.
