All downtown hotels are close to the stadium, if not walking distance then shuttle or cab ride distance.
My preference is to find a good sports bar and catch some other games on the boob-tube afterwards. This is what several of us did at Athens 2 years ago. I have to believe tail-gating spots will be few and far between for visitors given the downtown setting of the stadium.
